Papers turned in! Grad applications finished! All finals over! So happy.
My room at the moment is set up as two bedrooms sharing a living room and kitchen. For the past quarter, there's been no one living in the other bedroom; my roommate and I were alone in our bedroom. Yes, one of us could easily have taken advantage of the situation to get a single room, but I personally was way too lazy to move my stuff again. I don't know why she didn't. There had been supposed to be someone living there, but for whatever reason, she never showed up.
About a week ago I got a call that the room had been reassigned and some people might be coming by to look at it, if I wouldn't mind showing them around. Yesterday I got a new roommate (well, two actually, but one had already left for winter break by the time I got home, so I haven't talked to her).
Oh my dear god, I love my new roommate so much. She is adorable. Apparently her old roommates had been treating her horribly, until it got to the point where she was desperate to move out to anywhere that would take her. She's from South Korea and this had been her first quarter in America, which seems to be a big part of why they'd been so mean to her. I had to assure her, for example, that it was not actually considered appropriate in America to sleep with your boyfriend when other people are in the room, despite what her roommates had told her. And though she speaks perfect English, they'd pretend they couldn't understand her, which- what the hell has to be wrong with you before you'd do that to someone?
Anyway, it lead to her saying this, which is the funniest thing I've heard all day:
"I learned a new word for them. It's a bad word, maybe I shouldn't say it. But yes, they were, I think... bitches."
The very best moment of the evening, though, came when she mentioned that she thought she'd be very bored the next few weeks, while everyone was gone for winter break. I told her that she could borrow any of my DVDs that she wanted, and while going through them, she recognized Saiyuki. And immediately pointed out Sanzo as her favorite character. LOVE.
