brigdh: (you are so stupid)
[personal profile] brigdh
I'm in this Persian Mythology and Folklore class, and I hate every single person in it. I don't know how these people manage to find the intelligence in their empty little heads to live, much less attend college. This always happens to me when I take classes that can be used as credit toward filling a normally much more demanding requirement; I don't know why I haven't started checking for that beforehand. Or, you know, given up on humanity. Hope really must spring eternal.

But today, they took the cake. Sure, I'm annoyed that none of them will do the readings, ever. I was irritated when the teacher repeated the exact same two-hour lecture twice in one week and none of them paid enough attention to notice. I'm bitter over the fact that I am the apparently the only one in the entire class capable of answering questions, even when it's a question which was in the readings, which the entire last lecture was focused on, and which has been mentioned five times in the last ten minutes, and I have spent the last few weeks in class reading manga and pretending I was somewhere else. I was astonished that these people manage to tie their shoes themselves when they interrupted our guest lecturer to ask, "Are you from England?" Yes, he had an accent. But are you five? Did you really feel the need to go OMG you're not from here haw haw, because I think your parents taught you better than that. Jesus. I was embarrassed for them, because obviously they do not have the capacity to be embarrassed for themselves.

But. There are lines, people. Lines of common logic. And they have crossed them. Today, the teacher asked, "What is the difference between Sunni Islam and Shi'a Islam?"

This is what my classmates answered: "One is right and the other's wrong."

NO. NO. THAT IS NOT CORRECT. SHUT UP, YOU ARE MAKING MY ENTIRE SPECIES LOOK BAD. YOU ARE MAKING ALL OF EXISTENCE LOOK BAD. YOU ARE MAKING GOD REGRET HIS CHOICE TO CREATE LIFE, AND IF THE WORLD ENDS BECAUSE OF YOUR BLACK HOLE-LIKE STUPIDITY, I WILL HAUNT YOUR IDIOT ASS.

Bloody hell. Dear god, I feel for you. I didn't think people like those existed except for in fairy tales. *hugs*

. . . You know, this is where one of the characters who occasionally hangs around my brain sighs a little, readjusts his glasses, and murmers, "Yes, I know. That's why it shouldn't be a problem for you when I kill them."

[crumbles] Y'know, about four years ago, I assumed everyone was about as smart as or smarter than me. And I keep getting proven wrong. Which doesn't make me feel arrogant so much as rather sad. ~_~;

I'm dreadfully sorry that you have to deal with that class. [patpat] Maybe you'll get lucky and Darwinism will come into play soon.

...I totally just pictured that character as Tatsumi. Hands down. And then laughed my ass off. ^_^;

Ouchies. T_T

I can relate a bit---I go through a similar thing every time I take a foreign culture course. I'm an international relations student. Gah.

I hope the manga holds out.

Each time I think I've become completely jaded, I run across someone who manages to sink to still lower depths. Oh, humanity: please shut up.

Yeah. That's really the only logical reaction.

Don't I wish? I had to settle for whipping around and staring at them incrediously, while asking no one "Did he really just say that?"

People are amazing. And not in the good way, either. I thought I'd found my best ever stupid-people story when I took a biological anthropology class with a graduating senior who had never heard of Darwin, but no, I think this story wins.

*snerks* Ah, yes. That would be the Hannibal Lecter "Building a better world, one corpse at a time" theory of serial killing.

Yeah. I never expected everyone to be a genius, but come on, people. That's just common sense.

And one can only hope.

*winces* That must suck.

I'll force it to. If I run out, after all, I can always just reread things. Anything to not listen, heh.

That would certainly put a whole new spin on his breakup with Tsuzuki, wouldn't it? And on his hatred for Muraki, too: it's a commonplace that the faults people tend to find really unbearable in others are precisely the ones they have themselves . . . you know, damn it, there's a story lurking here somewhere.

Well, the better world *is* a happy side-effect, although it's not the principal point of the exercise.

-- Blast it, now I'm going to have him in my head all day long. And it's all your idiot classmate's fault.

Hee. Well, that's only fair trade, I think. I can't do a rant like this without ending up with Sanzo listening.

You know, that may be the abiding appeal of animanga universes, or a significant part of it. They could form a league: a cross-universe league for the protection of civilisation-as-we-know-it from idiots. Like the Justice League, only sympathetic.

Sanzo would probably wind up being elected president by acclamation. You know Muraki and Hisoka would both vote for him, and how many leaders can create consensus like that?

Hmm, you're right. Tatsumi's link to Earth could be his general hatred of humanity. And hmmm, his love for Tsuzuki could be completely unprecedented -- a total surprise. So he hates humanity, and Tsuzuki loves humanity, which is weird... And sometime later, Tatsumi snaps for some reason (not necessarily in a large way) and realizes that actually, he just hates people.

Matsushita-sensei does keep talking about how much of a "villain" Tatsumi is. There totally is a story lurking. ^_^

From: [identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com
*laughs* That is pretty wide appeal. It may be the only thing Muraki and Hisoka have either agreed on. Or, at least, the only thing Hisoka's willing to admit to.

OMG, that reminds me...

When I was in high school, we had a test where one of the questions was "What is the difference between Sunni Muslims and Shiite Muslims?" One of the multiple-choice options was "Shiites swear alot," as if anyone would be that damn stupid to pick it! (and I bet some did...)
