I got tagged by
goddessgrrrrl for the "your current six favorite songs" meme, and I'm posting the mp3s because, well, I like it when other people do that.
1. Fall Out Boy - Sugar, We're Goin' Down
We're going down, down in an earlier round,
And Sugar, we're going down swinging.
I'll be your number one with a bullet,
A loaded gun complex: cock it and pull it.
So much love. I've been singing the chorus continuously since I bought the CD on Tuesday. The rest of the song is fairly forgettable, but that "loaded gun" line... I could leave it on repeat for days.
2. Joseph Arthur - History
You're the house you grew up in,
You're always just arriving at your end.
You're your mama's shit eatin' grin and your daddy's double chin,
You're the first pair of shoes you ever went to school in,
And you're the kid pretending she's in prison,
Behind the bars of a jungle gym.
Mmmmmm, Joseph Arthur.
3. Sarah Slean - Climbing Up Walls
I am her face when she sleeps tonight,
I am the pick in the ice.
Do not cry out or hit the alarm,
'Cause we are friends 'til we die.
This song was a lot less creepy before I looked up the lyrics. It's very pretty, if you're oblivious like me and ignore the fact that it's apparently about the boogeyman. Cover of a Radiohead song.
4. Matthew Good Band - Indestructible
Died in a motor crash,
I came back for you:
The perfect version of myself.
Tomorrow we start again,
Tomorrow came and went.
Because I am incapable of listing any favorite songs without including at least one from Matthew Good Band. This is my current most-repeated song.
5. Bis - Stray Cat Blues
Oh yeah, you're a strange stray cat,
Oh yeah, don'tcha scratch like that,
Oh yeah, you're a strange stray cat.
Bet your mama don't know you scream like that,
I bet your mother don't know you can scream like that.
And this is my current fun & silly song. What could be better than a song about jailbait? I love all the "oh yeah"s. Cover of the Rolling Stones, I think.
6. Deftones - Passenger
Take me around again,
Just don't pull over.
This time would you please drive faster?
Roll the windows down,
This cool night air is curious,
Let the whole world look in,
Who cares who sees what tonight.
Roll these misty windows down,
To catch my breath,
And then go and go and go just drive me,
Home and back again.
Possibly my favorite song of all time. I had to include this because I don't think I've posted the file before (or at least not recently), and it's my mission to convert as many people to the love of Passenger as possible.
Also, if anyone else who downloaded the Saiyuki scanlations I put up is having trouble with chapter 13 of volume 3, there's now a better copy here.
All I've done for the last three days is eat and sleep. Which, okay, sounds like a description of my ideal life, but hitting five meals and upwards of ten hours of sleep a day is getting a bit excessive, even for me. I feel like I'm going into hibernation. More likely, I'm just recovering from finals week and a stressful quarter, but I'm done with winter-bear mode.
