It'd mainly be a personal site, which is why my first thought was brigdh, but I'd also love to provide hosting for others, which is why I think brigdh might not be so good. Maybe I should just look at quote sites until something pops out at me. ^^;
I actually like wordsofastory. I don’t think it’s long. After all, it’s short enough to be your LJ handle. And, it’s fairly descriptive.
.net used to be reserved for ISPs and telecomm companies and other companies related to communication infrastructure. and .org has a connotation of non-profit. Though, I guess it’s better than .com which was supposed to be for commerce.
Hm. I think brigdh@wordsofastory.net makes more sence than me@brigdh.net.
Ah, so that's what .net was original for. I knew .com and .org, but I couldn't remember .net.
I think I'll probably go with wordsofastory, unless I happen to come up with something better. I'll wait a few days to see if anything pops out at me, at least.
Have you got a theme idea for the site? A favorite phrase or word? This is one reason I have not yet bought a domain name. I have too many things I'd want to call the thing. *G*
*laughs* I have the same issue with tattos- I desperately want one, but I can never settle on what I want for long enough to actually get it.
I'd go with brigdh, if only because it's the screenname I've had since very nearly my first day on the internet, but it's so short and plain. And one of the main reasons that I want to get a domain is so that I can provide hosting for others, and I'm not sure that my own screenname would really be the domain anyone else would want. I could use wordsofastory- which is actually part of a quote from The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver- but I'm not entirely in love with that, either.
Tattoos involve needles, which is why I never got one. *G*
I agree that if you plan to host others on your domain, using your own screenname might not be the best way to go. Wordsofastory might work, but I've found the easiest domains to type and remember are ones that aren't more than two words long (i.e. illuminated-text, split-infinity, etc.). Is this mostly going to be a fannish domain, or do you intend it for other aspects of life, as well?
Mostly fandom. My other aspects of life don't require a website. Though I suppose they might someday, but that wouldn't be nearly as much fun.
I ended up picking a name randomly and went ahead and bought it, but now I have to wait for the site to 'propagate'. I have no idea why, or what exactly this entails, because I know nothing of technical details beyond HTML. So of course I'm all kinds of impatient, because I want to show it off.
I like both wordsofastory.net as it's easy to remember if you want to do hosting. Although I for one wouldn't mind being at brigdh.net-- but be warned, people may not remember how to spell it, there are so many variations on that name around. I know I have to think twice to remember the 'dh.'
Oh, I didn't think of the spelling thing. I'm so used to it that I don't notice anymore, but I am always having people tell me they can't remember all the letters.
Hee. I should start buying those cool temporary tattoos I had as a kid.
Technically, Brigid is the right spelling. I blame my own unique version on the fact that it was late at night, I hate coming up with names, and I'm the worst speller on the face of the earth.
But hey, at least I'm the only one! Or almost. There's some pagan chick named Brigdh Eden who comes up when I google myself.
