Conversations with my family:

*random discussion of, I don't remember, TV maybe*
Mom: So yesterday I went- wait, I told you Grandma has cancer, right?
Me: ...What?
Mom: Grandma has cancer.
Me: Mom!
Mom: Yeah, that probably wasn't the best way to tell you. Anyway, yesterday-
Me: That's it? You're not even going to say what kind of cancer?
Mom: Oh, yeah, I guess I should tell you that.

My family. We beat all y'all in terms of crazy. And by the way, this isn't really a big deal, as we've known she was sick for a while and, as further discussion revealed, she might not *actually* have cancer, and even if she does, it's not terribly serious. But, wow, tact is so not the word for us.

Bonus Fun!

I found this while coding my website. I made it months ago, but forgot to ever upload it. Lyrics from 'The Lament of Pretty Baby' by Cursive (which is the most Hisoka song ever; in adddition to the quote on the icon, it talks about a doctor, a sister something mysterious happened to, and has the line "the moon has raped me". I adore it), and is open for grabs, if anyone wants it.

Poe - Down by the Water. I would swear that I first heard this song years ago, while listening to the classic radio station my parents play, and that it was sung by a man. But when I was looking up the lyrics, apparantly it's a PJ Harvey song. I have no idea why I seem to remember it from my childhood. Anyway, here's a cover by Poe that I really like, that I've been listening to a ton over the last few days.

ETA: an upload link for the Cursive song

Ooh, teh shiny!

Do you have the song available? I would love to hear it and so would my inner Hiraki fangirl. :D

Oh, very nice. I always like icons with a limited color palette (that sounded a bit pretentious, huh? Note to self: learn to talk like a normal human being)

And I swear, someday I'll learn how to make animated icons.

Ta-da (http://s10.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3NG953DKOYOXZ0IRWICKZ2QV5K).

If you want Hiraki songs, this is another one I discovered recently when someone-I-unfortunately-forget rec'd it: Rob Dougan - Furious Angels (http://s10.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3FE6ZSC3PFO5A2B0RFOHWF4IRJ).

Thank you! And not pretentious; there's not a much better way to say it.

Generally you need a special program to make them. This (http://www.download.com/HVS-Animator/3000-2186_4-885667.html?tag=lst-0-10) is the one I used; it's very simplistic and kind of hard to figure out, but hey, it's free.

Thanks - I'm always trying to jam too much text in. But then I guess that's just a symptom of my chronic longwindedness (<=that's a horrible looking word)

And I grabbed your song recs -- God, I love knowing people with good taste in music (good, that is, in the Hobbesian 'like-mine' sense)

Shamelessly adding Cursive song to my ever evolving Hisoka playlist (I fangirl, therefore I am)

You're a doll.

I have the PJ Harvey version if you ever want it :)

*laughs* No worries; I'm just glad you liked it.

I love being able to rec music to people because it's a fairly new experience to me. I wasn't very interested in music growing up, and spent most of high school being the person who was utterly clueless about any bands or songs. So it's neat to be on the opposite end of the spectrum now.

And heh. I love character playlists. Did you see the one [livejournal.com profile] yasmninm did for Hisoka?

Ooo, really? I'd love to have it, if you don't mind! ^^

Yeah. And I remember your Tsuzuki fst. *love*
But you see, Yami has so insinuated itself into my life that I started making these playlists figuring I'd never post 'em. It's acutally a bit scary -- I've started viewing the world in terms of Yami no Matsuei. *shakes head sadly*

^^ Thanks!

And oh, I am totally the same way. I can't listen to the radio without applying every song to a character or event; I even watch movies with the intent of figuring out a new AU or some character insight. Which was how I discovered that Hisoka absolutely *hates* 'Mystic River', hates it with a deep and abiding passion.

But you should post your mixes! I love to see what songs other people listen to.

Two dumb questions

1. Are you sure the Poe song isn't just mislabeled? Because it does sound an awful lot like the PJ Harvey version.

2. Is it possible that the song from childhood you're thinking of is "Down by the River" instead of "Down by the Water"? Because the former is by Neil Young, although it's been covered by lots of people since.

No worries! I'm just glad to hear people like it.

And *cough* I hope you don't mind me asking, and feel free to ignore me if you do, but you fascinate me. I can't figure out why someone would start a livejournal, and out of all the millions of people to choose from, friend only me and Boni. How come that combination?

1. It's possible. Actually, it's probably really likely. I got it off of Imesh, and you should never trust their labels to be anywhere near accurate. Boni sent me the PJ Harvey version, and now that I've listened to it, it sounds like the exact same mp3, just with one a little quieter than the other.

2. No, I don't think so. Because the part I remember best is the "little fish, big fish/swimming in the water/come back here and gimme my daughter". I could have just imagined the whole thing, though. Or confused it with Dr Suess.
