Yami no Romance

I finally got around to playing the Yami no Matsuei games on this site, which I've known about for over a year, but never bothered to download.
And OMG the funny. You play as Tsuzuki, and attempt to hook up with your character of choice. But the setting? Is Cedar Point. I mean, it's supposed to be a generic amusement park, but all the pictures are from Cedar Point, and occasionally you can even see a sign reading 'Cedar Point' in the background. Except for the random pictures of Japan added in, because last time I checked, there are no giant neon signs in Japanese on Lake Erie. I am so entertained, because I was just there last week, and of course spent used most of the time waiting around in lines to plot out fics.
And... and... *dies* The roller coaster Hisoka is so scared of? (And I'm not commenting on that characterization, as much as I might want to...) Totally is the wimpiest, most boring kid's ride in the whole park. I usually don't even bother to ride it anymore.
The game is kind of addicting, though, if only because I'm tempted to do all the obviously wrong things to see how the other characters react. I got the Tatsumi and Watari endings on the first times I tried for them, but Hisoka's took me twenty times. So not fair. But Hisoka gets jealous when you go with Tatsumi! *snerks* I can't find Hijiri, who's supposed to be somewhere in the game, but I did find Muraki. And if you let him kidnap you, Hisoka will come and comfort you, which is a much easier way to get his ending.
I am way too amused by this game.

:) But yeah, they are SO addicting. :)

Date: 2004-09-10 10:44 am (UTC)Have you played the other one? The one where you have to make Hisoka pie and there's a secret yaoi ending? ^__^

I just found it today, so I've been trying. I can't get to the secret ending yet, though. Between this and how long it took me to get the Hisoka-ending on the other one, I'm starting to think I have some kind of deficency for these games. #^^# Everyone else seems to find them so easy!

Date: 2004-09-11 12:11 pm (UTC)I wonder whether it would run under Virtual PC? Most Windows-only programs will, although they won't necessarily do it well or quickly. If it's not too processor-intensive, though, it might be possible. I'll have to bookmark this, and try the workaround when I get home. If I can make it run, and nobody's come up with a better solution by then, I'll let you all know --

Date: 2004-09-11 12:17 pm (UTC)I'm always so embarrassed when I reccommend something and then realize that it might not work on everyone's computers. And I am so Mac-incompetant; my entire experience is limited to using them only when I'm at the computer lab and every single PC has been taken, and then I usually only poke at it for a few minutes before getting annoyed that they have the mouses without a right-click button and giving up. ^^;;
All of which is the long way of saying that it would be so cool if you could figure out a way to make the games work on a Mac, because I have no hope of doing it myself.

Date: 2004-09-10 11:00 am (UTC)Hey, the Borders near me is having a sale on Manga/Graphic Novels; got any to suggest? They suggest Inu Yasha, One Piece by E. Oda, or Fruit Basket by N. Takaya; but I don't really know too much about it.

Date: 2004-09-10 05:53 pm (UTC)Fruits Basket is a very, very cutesy story about an orphan girl. A lot of people like it, and it's funny and sweet, but it ended up being too cute for me, and I quit buying it. Of course, that's subjective, and a lot of people do find it interesting. If you like sweet romances, I'd reccommend it. If that sounds good, Fushigi Yugi is another similiar one.
Revolutionary Girl Utena is one I really like. The whole series is only five books long, but it's a very interesting femslash story. Lots of gender-bending and swordfights and talk about princes and princesses. The downside to this one is that it's very confusing, and the mythology behind it sometimes doesn't make a lot of sense.
Gravitation is probably my favorite manga coming out right now; it's kind of a warped romance between two guys, a romance novel writer and a rock star. But the romance writer is a very jaded, cold, unfeeling kind of guy, and the rock star is a bouncy, fresh-out-of-high-school, super-optomistic kid. The story's all about their relationship, which they try to keep hidden to stay out of the tabloids. On the other hand, this does not have the best art ever, and the characterization can be really weird. (Like when one of the characters gets raped and everyone seems to have forgotten it by the next chapter.)
Another popular one is X/1999, which is a dark Apocolypse tale, with serial killers and gods and prophtesses hidden under Japanese goverment buildings. This is a pretty long series, though, and I hear it takes a while to really get into it.
FAKE is about two New York City cops, who end up getting into a relationship. There's lots of case-solving and adventures, and one of the cops adopts this really cute street kid. Personally, I'm not in love with this one, but maybe that's just because I never liked mysteries all that much, and one of the characters is just *so* clueless that it bugged me.
Let's see, what else... Rourini Kenshin is the story of a samurai, set back in the historical era of Japan, it's very popular. Saiyuki is the modern retelling of an ancient Japanese/Chinese legend about bringing Buddha to the East, it's supposed to be pretty good. My little brother adores Initial D, but unless you're really into cars, I wouldn't recommend it. A lot of my friends have been talking about Hot Gimmick, which is a cute love triangle between (I think) a girl, her neighbor, and a classmate. Angel Sancturary is supposed to be very good but very weird, and it features a relationship between a brother and a sister, so don't get that if you don't like incest. Petshop of Horrors is a neat, Twilight-Zone like manga, that is a bunch of mostly unrelated stories.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Hope it helped! :)
