*puppy eyes*
Aug. 25th, 2004 05:20 pmSo, who wants to help me out?
I need Tsuzuki/Hisoka fic recs. I need things that are explicity Tsuzuki/Hisoka, and where that's the focus of the story (though if anyone knows of something long and plotty and finished where their relationship is also central, that'd be way cool). Basically, I'm looking for shipper fics.
I'd never realized before just how much of the fanfic out there does not fit into the category of actual Tsuzuki/Hisoka, and not just 'Hisoka thinks about Tsuzuki' or 'Tsuzuki dreams about Hisoka' or 'they have a subtextual, vaguely cutesy moment but it never amounts to anything'. This fandom has a weird fetish for pushing the bounds of platonic friendship but never quite crossing the line.
And really, I should be able to do this on my own, because hello, crazy-mad OTP fan here, but my giant file of bookmarks languishes unreachable on my laptop, which I fear shall never work again. So tell me your favorite Tsuzuki/Hisoka fic, even if you're sure I've seen it a million times, because it feels like I must be forgetting a bunch. Rec yourself! Rec your friends! Rec things from maillists and LJ communities! Rec that crazy chick on ff.net who only every wrote one fic, but it was really good! Please?

Date: 2004-08-25 06:06 pm (UTC)It feels sort of strange to say "platonic" in the usual sense after reading The Invention of Love: "Jowett, inveighing against 'Platonic enthusiasm' as a force which if indulged 'would empty the public schools and fill the prisons', says that it has taken all his efforts as a translator to 'rephrase [Plato's] description of paederastia [literally, 'boy-loving'; the love felt by an older man for a youth] into the affectionate regard as exists between an Englishman and his wife'." ;P

Date: 2004-08-25 09:03 pm (UTC)I've been avoiding most stuff labeled as Tsu/His for fear of excessively!uke!Hisoka
*sigh* I know exactly where you're coming from. That bugs the hell out of me, too. This fandom and its issues. *shakes head* I wouldn't put up with it if I wasn't so massively addicted.
And bwa! I never knew that was the original meaning of 'platonic'. Now I'm going to be forced to snicked every time I hear someone use the word. ^^

Date: 2004-08-25 09:07 pm (UTC)And yep, got Phantom Moon. Wonderful site, I'll probably be pulling most of the fics I rec from there, but I didn't want to miss anything new either.
I really don't like a lot of the Tsu/Hisoka fic so I kind of stopped reading it...
*weeps* My OTP! You insulted my OTP in my own journal! Well, now obviously I can never speak to you again and I'm going to unfriend you and say mean things about you in locked posts. And write fic just so I can put thinly veiled insults in the author notes. :p
But nah, I kinda know what you mean. A lot of the fic is, um, really, really bad. To put it nicely.

Date: 2004-08-25 09:18 pm (UTC)I already had it in my list of fics to rec, but thanks so mentioning it, because now I got to babble at you about how much I liked it. ^^

Date: 2004-08-25 11:26 pm (UTC)It was as close to sex as my Hisoka would let me get away with.I was more worried whether it was shippery enough for you, that it was perhaps too explicit and not enough with 'relationship' stuff.I'll second admitting to veering away from Tsusoka because of the very, very bad fic, and because I see Hisoka wanting
to be sememore control in their relationship than he normally seems to want in fic, but I am curious to see your recommendations.no subject

Date: 2004-08-25 11:48 pm (UTC)I have a couple of long time favourites there. The Gift (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1617214/1/) has romance and drama and even a bit of lime. It's an AU though, and still in progress.
This one is complete, and has plot as well (other than the two getting together, although the plot is serving as a means to that goal): Drowning in dreams (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1645485/1/).
Then there's my fics, but surprisingly enough, I wouldn't rec them as shipping fics (or much else as far as reccing goes). But you're certainly right; the Tsu/Hi part of the fandom is really, really big on the undefined-romance, that type that pushes the line between platonic and romantic. And then there's people like me who just go to the smut headfirst.

Date: 2004-08-26 04:29 am (UTC)Well, yes! Really I just said it to see what the thinly veiled insults would be!

Word.
And the other thing is that it has to be a good/unusual perspective or something different to grab my attention when I'm happy with canon-- and I'm really happy with Tsuzuki/Hisoka as I saw them in canon.
I was starting to read a really good one (or at least it looked to be really good) the other day about the troubles of having a perpetually 16-year-old body and how hard it was to calm your surging teenage hormones down...and then the baby woke up and then I forgot about it...*sheepish grin* It might have been yours, actually.

Date: 2004-08-26 05:12 am (UTC)And I see that fic as very shippy. I mean, yeah, there's the sex, but that's not what draws Hisoka there in the first place. If that makes any sense.

Date: 2004-08-26 09:27 am (UTC)Much as I like Tsusoka smut when done right, I rarely see it done right. Most of my favorite Tsusoka stories, now that I think about it, are those that kind of skirt that line between close friendship and romantic relationship. Admittedly, part of what I like is that skirting sometimes (I'm a fan of the tease), but there are definitely other times when I'm in the mood for smut and...it's rather hard to come by the stuff I like, or the stuff I find in-character.
Really, what I think this fandom needs is a good dose of frottage. Mmm, full-body rubbing.

Date: 2004-08-26 11:11 am (UTC)I wrote this story because Tsuzuki and Hisoka are in LOVE and even though there's some people out there who don't agree, they are WRONG and they STUPID and homophobic. But my friend read this and said it was GOOD so you better leave reviews or I won't update. SO REVIEW! And if you don't like Tsusoka- AND I KNOW WHO YOU ARE YOU BITCHES QUIT STALKING MY LIVEJOURNAL I DON'T LIKE YOU ANYWAY- maybe you should just go watch the anime again because DUH. GOD. I can't stand stupid people. AND YOU'RE ALL JUST JEALOUS OF ME ANYWAY, LIKE THOSE MEAN GIRLS IN HIGH SCHOOL WHO WOULDN'T TALK TO ME.
And the other thing is that it has to be a good/unusual perspective or something different to grab my attention
Heh. I'm just the opposite- if it's too far from canon, I'm not that interested.

Not mine, alas. This one (http://www.sentai.org/~tigger/txt/twice_as_hard.html), maybe? And I know that there's one that fits that description on ff.net, but I can't remember the title.

Okay then.
Heh. I'm just the opposite- if it's too far from canon, I'm not that interested.
Maybe I phrased this wrong (God knows, I've done that enough times). I want things that are consistent with canon, but I don't want something that's a re-hash of stuff I already know-- that I find really boring. Yes, I know Hisoka ran though the fire for Tsuzuki. I got that. Tell me something new, mmkay? It doesn't have to be that different, just a new angle or a good perspective-- something that doesn't make me feel like I'm reading the same story over and over again.
And yes, it was the story you linked. Whee!

Date: 2004-08-26 11:24 am (UTC)That's interesting. I wonder if it's because I'm far more used to slash (as opposed to yaoi). Sex not only seems to be much less common here, but when it is present, it's very... subtle, almost. Poetical and, often, Harlequin-romancy. Where's the graphic stuff, the explicit stuff, that's so common in Western media fandoms? I feel like there's an entire genre of fic that's gotta be out there somewhere, but I just can't find it.
Ah, well. Thanks for the recs! And a big yay for seme-Hisoka. Especially after spending all day trolling ff.net for fics. I swear to god, if I read one more thing that has Hisoka crying and going to hide because Tsuzuki forced a kiss on him, I am going to hurt someone.
