I come across these lines in an essay on friendship:

"Futhermore Mercutio here exhibits an attitude toward Romeo's phallus that is at once generous and interested. It is as if Mercutio has a personal investment, as we say, in his friend's erection."

*snickers* This would be the special kind of friendship. Have you ever read Romeo and Juliet? Mercution is the gayest Shakespeare character ever. And I love the portrayal of his character in the latest movie version, the one starring Leonardo DeCaprio and Claire Danes. Mercutio's played by this cute boy who spends the beginning of the movie in drag, is way unstable, and so very, very in love with Romeo that it hurts. ^^

I still have to watch that movie. -_-;; But that does sound fun. The last Mercutio I saw was a rather butch type (small theatre production) but that whole drag thing sounds cute. :D

Dude, 12th Night is canon slash. Everyone spends way too much time and energy on their gay-lovers then on the actual straight couples they're in at the end of the play.

And I'm totally tempted to write fic for this after spending so much time on the freakin' paper, but the fact that it's, yanno, Shakespeare is kinda daunting.
