Game of Thrones

The opening Tyrion/Jaime scene was pretty fantastic. Really, all of Tyrion's prison scenes this episode are wonderful. Dinklage is doing an amazing job of grief and anger and stifled emotions. Even moreso in the Tyrion/Bronn scene, which. Ohhh, so sad. SO SAD. I loved the line "And when have you ever risked your life for me?" and how startled Tyrion looked- clearly not a thought he'd ever considered before.

Dany/Daario. OH MAN DANY GET IT. I approve highly of this version of their relationship.

The Oberyn/Tyrion scene was also just fantastic- I loved the use of this story here, and Tyrion getting teary hearing it. And I love Oberyn volunteering to be Tyrion's champion.

And then Sansa/Littlefinger, man, so creepy Sansa/Littlefinger. I'd imagine the snow-castle as much more dramatic and involved in the book, but I suppose time constraints, adaptation choices, etc, etc. It also feels like she and Littlefinger have only been in the Eyrie for about three days, which should make it hard to stay without Lysa! But I suppose more time is implied, since God knows I never know long apart events in this show are.

Penny Dreadful

So, is the opening scene always going to be someone dying dramatically?

Okay, maybe I'm shipping Frankenstein/monster. But clearly the show wants me to! Good lord, all those lingering close-ups and fingers in mouths...

I'm liking this version of Dorian Grey.

The seance scene was incredibly creepy and awesome; I'd loved it as a way to reveal backstory and character dynamics of both explorer-dude (Malcom? His name is? Maybe?) and Vanessa, and their relationship.

DUN DUN DUN what an ending! But I like it- it works really well with the original Frankenstein, that the creature is an intelligent person abandoned by his creator.

Also: no spiders this episode! EXCELLENT.

Daario annoys me a LOT, but I like Dany just asking for what she wants. But I also liked how she then listened to Jorah.

The Tyrion stuff was fabulous. Such great acting all round.

I liked the Tyrion scenes, but the scene with Oberyn was my favourite. Oberyn! He's surprisingly decent for a nobleman in Westeros.

I loved loved the Brienne+Pod+Hot Pie scene, omg! Three characters who are all good people interacting with each other to their mutual benefit, wow!

I love that someone else is watching Penny Dreadful! It is the most delicious mix of awesome and scary and over the top and ridiculous. Especially in the seance scene, which was all the above. Either they used CG on possessed woman's GIANT EYES, or she is capable of making her face do more-than-human things. The actress is great. I also loved the terrifying way she crawled across the table.

Same with Dorian Gray, who I also like - awesome and ridiculous and OTT in the best way. I was totally expecting the consumptive woman he was having sex with to wither into an ancient thing. Speaking of which, I could not understand half of what she was saying. Was it just me or did she have something like four different accents?

I was shipping Frankenstein/Proteus, who were practically making out and then went on a date, right up until the point that he was GORILY RIPPED IN HALF. I did not see that coming.

I cannot love anything more than Arya and the Hound, except possibly Tyrion and Oberyn. I will be very sad to see both those partnerships come to an end.

Littlefinger also has about four accents. I am still perplexed by his current one. I could swear he had a different one last season.

Ah, I forgot to mention Hot Pie! I loved seeing him again, so much!

I like Daario, but I like him for what he is- that is, a minor character who's mostly filling a spot in Dany's character arc. I don't really need more of him than that. I do like the way Daario/Dany then influenced the stuff going on with Jorah.

Ah, yes. She had such a weird, incest/robot/animal/inhuman body language during the seance scenes; that and her voice were scarier than the actual dialogue, I thought.

Yeah, I was not expecting the consumptive woman to survive that encounter, though I thought he was going to murder her less supernaturally. She did have a weird accent! Or accents.

Ha, me either! I was sure Proteus and his attempts at learning to live was going to be one of the main plots for the whole season.

Ah, me too! There's going to be so much rearranging of people by the end of this season.
