Watching Monday
Jan. 20th, 2014 02:55 pmSleepy Hollow
YES GOOD EXCELLENT. This show is so much better when Abbie is the focus and Crane is the sidekick. Also Jenny is somehow getting prettier with every appearance. I don't know how this is possible.
Skinny jeans! And then he immediately took them back off. I love it.
This entire episode was about talking to people and not keeping secrets- Irving telling Abbie and Crane that the demon is demanding the Bible, Abbie and Crane asking Jenny's permission to watch the video, Irving learning the moral lesson to not keep Macey and Cynthia in the dark- and it's so wonderful and beautiful. It is like the opposite of annoying, isolating manpain and it's beautiful and I adore it.
Abbie standing up to the demon with "Try me". <3 <3 <3 She is my hero forever.
I need the Jenny back-story with creepy survivalists. I need it like oxygen.
Ichabod hoisting Abbie up and trying very hard not to look at her butt! :D
The climatic scene had six people on screen, only one of which was white, and only two of which were men. And yet it's not even a thing! It's not a show being marketed specifically to women or black audiences or anything like that! It's just treated as completely normal and unremarkable and it's so amazing.
TEARFUL SISTER HUGS. SISTERLY LOCK PICKING. SISTERLY JAIL SACRIFICE AND "I THOUGHT SHE HATED ME" BUT SHE WAS TRYING TO PROTECT YOU. LEAVE ME HERE WITH MY FEEEEEEEEEEEEEELS.
TONIGHT IS THE LAST EPISODE. What will I do for the next eight months? Luckily for me, this week is also the beginning of Black Sails (lesbian pirates!) and The Musketeers (Swashbuckling! Cardinal Richelieu! Milady!), both of which I am very excited for. Anyone else planning to watch?
American Horror Story
You know, I barely even remember what happened in this episode. Fiona and Marie Laveau killed some people, I guess? There was that super gross eye thing? OH WAIT THE END WITH THE BABY I AM TRAUMATIZED FOR LIFE.
I am so bored of this show. And I had such high hopes!
Leverage
LOVE LOVE LOVE. No coherence, only squee.
"The Tap-Out Job": This episode was amazing. I loved the city vs rural subtext, I loved Eliot's sympathy and understanding of the fighters, I loved the teeny-bopper concert, I loved Sophie's "you've taken the safety off!", I loved the random saxophone at the end.
"The Order 23 Job": OMG SO FUNNY. I loved the fake outbreak, complete with Sophie's death scene and creepy biohazard suits; I loved Hardison's attempt at Star Trek codes (and Dr. Wrathof Khan!) and then his complaining at Eliot's refusal to play along; I loved Eliot noticing the abused child and figuring out a way to help the situation, and also that it wasn't an easy solution.
"The Fairy Godparents Job": I loved the musical science fair; I loved Eliot and Sophie as teachers, especially Eliot's martial arts classes; I loved FBI's guy crush on Parker, and Parker and Hardison's amazingly pink outfits as newlyweds; I loved Hardison trying to break into the apartment with Parker's guidance.
"The Three Days of the Hunter Job": AMAZING. EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS WAS AMAZING. I loved the news lady and her show; I loved Hardison as insane conspiracy man; I loved how they tricked the congressman into appearing to confirm "Project Destiny"; I loved Parker getting hit by the car; I loved Hardison under arrest pretending to be a spy; I loved Parker trying to get caught stealing the news ID; I loved the breakdown at the end.
"The Top Hat Job": MAGICIANS YES. I want the AU where they actually are a team of magicians. I loved the cheesy goth magician; I loved Hardison and Parker as audience members in love; I loved the CEO in the box being rolled all over the building; I loved the information gathering that failed, complete with Eliot as pizza boy and Parker being spied on by a not-homeless guy; I loved the callback to "it's a very distinctive stance"; I LOVED PARKER POKING AT ELIOT'S BRUISES OMG; I loved Sophie trying to set Nate up on a date.
"The Two Live Crew Job": HOW IS THIS SHOW THIS AMAZING? I loved everyone's counterparts, especially Eliot's and Hardison's; I loved Sophie coming to her own funeral; I loved how intense everyone was while she was holding the bomb; I loved how clever the end con was; I loved the last scene with Sophie and Nate.
(I've only seen up to episode 2.07- "The Two Live Crew Job", so no spoilers past that, please.)

I don't even care about anything else on the show (apparently it's supposed to be a prequel to 'Treasure Island'?), I just want pirate ladies kissing each other.

and totally agree with your assessment of Sleepy Hollow (which is not on UK TV but which I adore anyway)

Date: 2014-01-20 09:47 pm (UTC)I'm very much looking forward to Black Sails, and Sleepy Hollow has by far been my favorite new show of the year.

Date: 2014-01-21 03:15 am (UTC)I . . . might have heard some stories about Black Sails while it was in production. And heard some things from some writers. Things that made me fear that in this case, as in too many others, what was going to make it onto the screen was not going to equal the goodness of what might have been. So I've been waiting for other people to watch the finished product and tell me whether I want to watch or not.
With Musketeers, I didn't even know it was in production until it was already airing. I loved and imprinted on the Richard Lester Three Musketeers, and I fear nothing else will ever measure up -- but I kind of adore Evil Cardinal Richelieu, so if this is a good Evil Cardinal I'm hoping someone will tell me in time for me to check it out.

Date: 2014-01-21 07:28 pm (UTC)That's unfortunate. I suppose there's still hope, though; I heard some depressing backstage stories about Sleepy Hollow, but have still very much enjoyed the final product.
I have been hearing good things about Peter Capaldi as Richelieu, so I'm looking forward to that aspect of it.

Date: 2014-01-21 09:10 pm (UTC)I love your Leverage squee!
Did you notice the FBI dudes had already shown up in season 1 ("The Wedding Job" aka the one where Parker calls out Hardison on illegal downloading)?
My favourite bit of "The Three Days of the Hunter Job" was the news anchor announcing Hunter's breakdown just after it happened, live on air.
OMG MAGICIAN AU yesssss that is amazing
This show is the greatest, honestly.

Date: 2014-01-21 10:29 pm (UTC)I did recognize the FBI guys! I love having minor characters show up again like that; it's one of my favorite things TV shows can do.
YES I loved the other news anchor. That whole episode was so hilarious.
I will accept either stage magician AUs or one where they're wizards with actual magic. Either would be awesome!
It really, really is.
