You know, if they wanted a voodoo figure who deals with the dead, wears a top hat, and looks vaguely skeletal, that figure exists. Unfortunately, it's not Papa Legba. I don't know how AHS apparently can't afford someone to google this shit.
On the other hand, the team-up of Marie Laveau and Fiona is pretty awesome, I can't deny that. What happened to Delphine, though? Is she still in a box somewhere?
Leverage
I love this show so much. I love the characters, I love the ripped-from-the-headlines bad guys (evil insurance companies! evil bank bailouts! evil government contractors in Iraq!)- it really is the ideal liberal show.
Eliot's secret chef skills! Fresh lemon juice! Parker in the ugliest bridesmaid dress ever! Nate giving the worst wedding sermon ever! "The Butcher of Kiev", wtf and hilarious. Parker coming up with the excuse that she was having sex with Hardison!
Hardison oversleeping and forgetting a con because of World of Warcraft! Every single thing about Hardison as company employee- from the buzzword-filled presentation to deciding it's his birthday to being sympathetic to the other employees to "I need to go cry"! Sophie and Nate's argument about dates! Eliot and Nate trying to wake up the security guy after accidentally knocking him unconscious!
Parker doing a terrible job of calling for help with hanging off a ski-lift! Danny Strong as the bad guy! It's Jonathan!
Everything about the group therapy scenes! The Koreans vs Mexicans vs Chileans stand-off! Hardison sitting on the bomb! Parker hugging everyone at the end!
Parker learning to make friends on the jury! Hardison being a lawyer! Sophie as fake Indian, OMG.
Eliot as fake art professor! Parker breaking into the vault only with supplies from the buffet! Parker/Hardison make-outs! Maggie! Dramatic kidnappings and rescues!
Nate being so determined not to rejoin the team! Parker dressed as a nun! Parker explaining how people are like locks! Nate's Boston accent! Hardison buying Nate's building!
One thing I didn't like- and this is really relatively minor- is that I felt like Nate's drinking problem came out of nowhere. I wish they had hinted at it earlier before it was suddenly a plot-point. That said, I do like how they've handled it since. (I've only seen up to episode 2.01- "The Beantown Bailout", so no spoilers past that, please.)

Date: 2014-01-13 09:23 pm (UTC)Nate's drinking problem felt like it was built up organically, for me: all through out season 1, he keeps drinking more and more. Hell, the first time we meet him, he's in the process of getting drunk.
Edit to add: The voodoo figure that is tall, skeletal, tophat-wearing and deals with the dead is Baron Samedi, right?

Date: 2014-01-13 09:34 pm (UTC)I did have the suspicion that if/when I rewatch the first episodes, I'll see clues about Nate's drinking. But on a first watch, I didn't feel like the drinking was an unusual amount.
Yup. Papa Legba is more of a St Peter-analogue: old dude with a cane or beard, known for giving people permission to enter or exit. (Although I am in no way a voodoo expert!)
