I adore Tara and Lafayette. I could do well with an entire show of her yelling at people and him flirting with them. You could be my Santa Claus, hee. However, the main character (is she really named Sukie? I keep expecting this to be a nickname), has bunny teeth. I am not sure yet if this is a positive or a negative.

The fangs are kind of cheesy. I feel like they wanted to be Buffy, but had to change it a little.

On the same note, I feel like the crazy amount of sex this episode was HBO proving it was not just redoing Buffy. They're not succeeding.

On the whole, I don't feel strongly about it one way or the other yet, which I suppose could just be a typical first episode thing. I'll definitely watch again next week, at least.

I haven't seen the show (yet, of course I will, I mean, hello, vampires!) but I got really mad at some interview where Alan Ball said that he hadn't seen Buffy or read Anne Rice, or any other pop. cult. vampire stuff. I mean, okay, a new perspective and all that - but, c'mon. It is not a badge of pride to not do your research, even if it is genre fiction! And if you don't, you just end up rehashing things that have been done (and done better) aeons ago.

[I mean, I kinda hate Anne Rice now, but I loved her when I was a little girl, and you can't argue that they're foundational. I think the point is still valid] It just made me really mad at the show in general. Of course I'm gonna watch it anyway at some point, but yeah.

In the books, she's called Sookie Stackhouse, a little poke at all the Urban Fantasy heroines. XD; I don't recall there being a huge amount of sex in the first book, but then I read it quite fast and about two years ago. So my memory of it is vague at best.

Also, a little OT, but man, I'm so happy you're posting again. :D

Heh, I guess Sookie is a better name than all those Anitas and Cassandras.

Eee, thank you. #^^#

I agree. It's pretty much never a good idea to just ignore things that have come before. It's worth watching so far, though I don't love it.

OMG BILL! AND ERIC!

I read these stupid, pointless, fluffy, little book religiously. *just about dies laughing* They made a SHOW about them? XDDDD

Seriously. The books are... well, fluffy is a nice way of putting it, and at least the vampires get to actually act like vampires a bit of the time. Also, she named one of the lead vamps BILL. I have an uncle named Bill and this fact never ceases to amuse me.

Having just returned from abroad I am intrigued by what you think of this show as it's continued. Do you think it would be worth my trying to find a link to it somewhere to watch?

Oh hee Eric you so funny.

It's actually been getting really good the last few weeks. Although I get the feeling that it's pretty far away from the books. But I could be wrong! Read them and tell me. XD

Like- there hasn't been an Eric so far, unless I'm forgetting something. I really adore Tara and Lafayette, though!
