Reading Wednesday

Death by Silver by Melissa Scott and Amy Griswold. I had an awful cold last week (over it now, thank you!) so I put everything else I was reading on hold for some mindless comfort reading. In a Holmes-esque turn-of-the-century London with magic, Ned is a metaphysician and Julian is a private detective. They went to school with Victor Nevett, who was a bully in the standard sort of late 1800s/early 1900s British boarding school way (I actually expected the childhood trauma to be way worse than what was eventually revealed, given how much of the plot depended on Victor being the Most Terrible Ever). Victor's father has just been murdered, and he hires Ned and Julian to figure out the mystery.
Ned and Julian were in a relationship while they were at school, and after years apart, have just gotten back together. Each of them thinks the other is only in it for temporary gratification, which leads to lots of pining of my most favorite sort. The mystery itself is sort of dumb and I didn't fall in love with any of the characters, but it's a very pleasing book for shallow comfort. I liked it better than Scott's Points series, actually, so recommended if you're a fan of that.
What are you currently reading?
The Dark Horse by Craig Johnson. Still can't decide if I'm into the Walt/Vic relationship or not. I do highly approve of Henry getting into boxing matches to be Walt's secret back-up.
Ramayana by R. K. Narayan. I only read about 5 pages of this last week, so nothing much to say.
Traveling with the Dead by Barbara Hambly. Paris! Vienna! Constantinople! Also, I derive needless amusement whenever someone quotes the same line as Ben and/or Hannibal. They should all get together and have a Shakespeare-off.
