This is set shortly after Ran Away and involves a spoiler for a minor plot point in that book. That said, I'm pretty sure you can read this without knowing the canon! To be extremely brief: the setting is late 1830s, New Orleans; Benjamin and Rose are married and Hannibal is their close friend. If you are more of a visual person, you can picture them like this: Hannibal, Benjamin and Rose.
