foc_u has organized a day of protest for today, May 18th, in part as a response to the recent renewal of RaceFail with Patricia Wrede's book. This protest is intended to feature the contributions of people of color to fandom, as fans, as writers, as actors, as artists- their work and existence in every part of fandom. People of color and white allies are invited to link to the community, and post there or on their own blogs with essays, stories, art, or other things to show that fandom
is diverse. And that it should be.
I don't have an insightful essay in me today, so I thought I'd link to some important or interesting things by other people that I've been happy to know about:
foc_c - Fans Of Color United
verb_noire - A small press focusing on works by or about POC. Started in response to the RaceFail earlier this year.
rydra_wong's
list of important essays.
ibarw - International Blog Against Racism Week
