Jun. 14th, 2008 03:56 pm1. Perhaps sandduststorms are better than the alternative. When the wind's not blowing, it becomes soul-suckingly, mind-meltingly, exhaustion-inducing hot. The wind keeps things cool.
2. Today I visited some dead cities (Roman and Byzantine cities abandoned in antuquity and never re-occupied, and so stand fairly intact as ruins to wander around in), walked on a Roman road, and saw some ancient monastaries, tombs, and a temple to Zeus. Syria has some cool things. It does not, however, have black pepper, peanut butter, or non-powdered milk.
