Notes, gay and drabbles.
Oct. 14th, 2004 08:02 amDear Self,
Please do not go to bed at 3am when you have a midterm at 9am.
Love,
Brigdh
P.S. When you have a midterm at 9am, do not start studying for it at 12:30am.
*cough* I win the procrastination award, go me! *cough*
Anyway, while I procrastinate some more before my next class, I'd like to recount a story. On Tuesday night, I was in a Guess the Straight Person panel. They're held by my University to promote diversity and acceptance and whatever; all freshmen are required to go to three such things. The idea is that a group of about 4 to 8 people- bi, gay, lesbian, straight, transgender, and anything else- get up in front of a bunch of freshmen and answer questions, and then the audience guesses which person is the straight one. No gimmie questions like 'Do you have sex with men?' allowed, so instead you get a lot of things like, 'How many shoes do you own?' and 'What's your ideal date?'
It's fun. I like trying to fool the freshmen. Which didn't work so well, since I only got 8 votes out of about 50 for being straight. The funny part of this story is the end, when we were supposed to reveal the straight person.
Host: Will the real straight person please stand up?
Panel: *looks at each other*
Lauren: Um, Brigdh?
Me: Wha?
Lauren: I thought you were straight?
Me: I'm not straight!
Lauren: Well, I'm not straight!
Rest of Panel: We're not straight!
Crowd: *cracks up*
Ah, yes. Because our incompetence is pastede on yay. But it was a learning experience about prejudice! That we planned! Really!
And by the way, since I'm sure you're all just dying of curiosity, I'm gay.
I've got an idea for
fuda_100's challenge. I'm all inspired. But I can't write it until I get one more plot point, and it's bugging me, hovering just beyond recognition, like when something's stuck on the tip of your tongue. It's almost there, I almost have it, but... not quite yet. Argh. So frustrating. It's my trauma of the day: this stupid unformed plot detail buzzing around in my head.
