One nation, underdog
Jun. 27th, 2002 10:14 pmSo, I wake up this morning, take a look at the paper, and see, in giant letters: Appeals Court Rules 'Under God' Unconstitutional.
My first thought? Yay! It's about time people noticed this. I can understand if you support the pledge because you're Christian, or because you think that God gave us our rights, but it's fairly hard to support the pledge because you don't think it violates the separation of Church and State. How can it not violate it? 'Under God' doesn't leave much doubt. I've spent the day being happy about it, but also depressed because I don't have much hope of the Supreme Court not overturning it.
I've also gotten into several arguments about it. I tried not to, really I did, but when someone begins the conversation with "When I read that, I was *so* pissed! How can people be that dumb?" it's hard to resist.
Here's the news article itself: Link
Here's an article on Bush's reaction: Link
And here's an article about how the ruling has already been put on hold. Yes, not even 24 hours later: Link
By the way, don't click on the Bush's reaction story unless you want to be scared. Anyone else read A Handmaid's Tale?
And some more links, for people who expressed themselves much better than me:
The Brat Queen
Stakebait
P.S. If any of the links cease to work, I have the articles ( here )
