Everyone should read this thread from reading_genji. Because the people there are geniuses of funny. Probably funnier if you have some knowledge of Sei Shonagon or Saiyuki.

So, I've been friended by four new people since last night. Not that I mind! Not at all. I quite enjoy new people reading me, actually; it allows me to cackle wickedly as I watch my 'friends of' count grow higher and wait for the day that the whole world falls under my sway.

But it is sort of strange. Was I advertised somewhere? Was I on metaquotes without realizing it? Maybe I suddenly became more interesting (a fact that I confirm with this post, with its fascinating internet quiz and link spam). Tell me, new people.


*Is the word 'ganked' or 'gacked'? Because one is internet slang for "I took this idea from someone" and one was my-early-years-of-high-school slang for "to steal", but I've forgotten which is which.

I say "ganked". I've always known "gank" as meaning "to steal." I shudder whenever I see someone say "gack."

Hee, porn. Never saw that one coming XP (But seriously you're one of my all-time favorite writers of smut, so I really hope you take the quiz's advice). When I tried this yesterday it told me to write 'literature' and I was like, WTF does that even mean?

Who doesn't like being friended? So validating...

I use 'gacked' for 'taken from someone' but then I'm sometimes wrong about these things, and easily confused.

"Ganked" was our form, where I got it. I've seen it used as a multipurpose verb, I think, sometimes meaning 'gotten', sometimes 'killed'. Usually the latter was in the sense of computer problems, I think.

I think that's one of the definitions of 'square' -- someone who looks up slang in a dictionary ^^

But, really, I'm so utterly fascinated by how language develops that I'm constantly doing weird things like looking up usage histories and etymologies. So now I have at my disposal such enthralling pieces of trivia as, "did you know that 'gank' can be used as slang for crack cocaine?"
