Dear coworker of mine,
No, the radio station did not decide to start playing Christmas music early because "they wanted to lift people's spirits after all the tragedy this year, the hurricanes and all". Repeatedly saying so to our customers makes you sound like an idiot. They did it to make money. Also, your dog ate a rat. I do not think this necessitates a trip to a vet. It certaintly did not necessitate you freaking out, washing out his mouth, and brushing his teeth. He's a dog. He's designed to eat small scurrying things. Chill the fuck down.

No love,
Brigdh

Dear radio station that decided to start playing Christmas music on November 4th,
Go to hell. You go to hell, and you die. If I snap and kill someone after the next two months of constant cheesy carols, it will be all your fault. Also? If your playlist of Christmas music is so short that I had to listen to that goddamn "It's the most wonderful time of the year" song three times within a four-hour shift, maybe you shouldn't try to make it last for two months. Jesus! That's a sixth of the entire year, people.

Deepest hate,
Brigdh

And now I'm going to sit around and watch subbed anime on my computer, because I am so cool that that's what I do on Friday nights.

<.< you should join [livejournal.com profile] rude_mofos. I reckon there will be a lot of ranting about christmas music played two months early.

Heh, I probably should. I complain about annoying people often enough.

Full Metal Alchemist. I've only seen about an episode and a half of it yet, but I've heard wonderful things.

Please do! :)

And right on! I followed the show for a bit, but just couldn't stick with it. I catch episodes when I can but I'm generally like, "....buh?!"

I'm lucky; a friend of mine sent me the whole series, so I can watch it whenever I feel like it.

Actually, a dog eating a rat might necessitate a vet visit, but not because ZOMG MY DOG ATE A RAT. If it was a wild rat it could have ingested some poison that would then be passed on to the dog or had rabies or some other nasty disease. Then again I guess most people wouldn't worry unless the pet started to appear sick, after all, people's cats eat mice and birds all of the time and they don't rush them to the vet. Hell, some dogs are bred to kill rats ("rat terrier" anyone?)

That being said, ew.

Did you get a chance to read Sorcerer Hunters yet?

I feel for you more profoundly than you can know, because I have been driven to acts that almost rise to vandalism by even a short exposure to "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," which is my own personal choice for the worst and most madness-inducing faux Christmas song of them all. (I have coldly hunted down department store sound systems and disconnected them, it's that bad.) If Lovecraft were writing today, I feel sure he'd be writing about it as the ultimate horror that drives sensitive protagnists to incurable insanity.

But, you know what I've found makes it a little better? Over on dKos last week, people were submitting lyrics for Fitzmas carols. And having the words for those in my brain, shunting aside the words of the commercial ickiness, doesn't fix everything, but it sure helps.

I really wish people would refrain from saturating ears everywhere with Christmas carols until December. And I also wish shops wouldn't start promoting Christmas stuff in fucking *September*!!! (I kid you not!) By the time Christmas arrives, the overkill has usually gotten to me.

And it's nice to see you being more blunt about things that bug you than you used to be! ^_^

I see your point. I suppose I should have been more specific though, because the dog didn't even actually eat the thing, it was just carrying it around in its mouth. I mean, maybe it took a bite or two, but there was still enough left that she also found the need to bury it with a shovel.

Not yet, sorry. I've got to finish a novel for my fiction class, so that's the only thing I've been reading.

Ha! I have to say, I've never gone that far, though I'm terribly impressed that you have.

And ooh. Thanks for pointing that out; I wouldn't have seen it myself, but I'm sure it'll start me giggling a few times later today when I'm once again listening to the awful music.

I know! It drives most of the enjoyment out of Christmas for me; you'd have to love something an awful lot to not get sick out it after months and months of constant exposure. And wow, September? That's just ridicoulous.

And it's nice to see you being more blunt about things that bug you than you used to be!

Heh, thank you, I suppose. You know, I think you've known me for longer than anyone else on this LJ- or at least the ones who comment. It's funny to think of that.

And this is why I don't listen to the radio...

It always drives me crazy that the Christmas decorations go up as soon as the Halloween candy is off the shelves.

When I was in college I worked in a factory over the summer packaging tool parts. They listened to the country music station or the top 40 station. I didn't like either, but tended to prefer the country because while there were almost never songs that I actually liked, there weren't any I hated either.

Like Bye, Bye, Bye. Which the top 40 station played three times a day over the course of my eight hour shift. Every. Single. Day.

Overplaying brings on the hate.

The state of radio stations today is just sad.

I completely understand your story, though. The only time I listen to the radio tends to be in a car, and not having one myself, I'm usually only in a car when I'm home for the summer. So this summer, having barely listened to the radio for nine or ten months, I start fiddling with the dial, fully expecting not to recognize a single one of the songs.

Except that it turned out the only things the Top 40 station was playing was songs I somehow knew, either because they were over a year old or which I had somehow absorbed through osmosis by hearing them on TV commericals and such, and all of which I already hated from overplay.

This is why I love my Ipod so.

Has your coworker just been under a rock for the past couple of Christmases? They've been starting the damn music earlier every year despite the fact that they seem to run through their entire playlist in about, oh... 2 hours?

Maybe if they played some more trans-siberian orchestra, I wouldn't complain so much, but they won't, so I do.

And FMA is a fabulous series. You'll enjoy watching it. :)

Hee, I know some places play Christmas carols once the 'Ber months hit. That's like, a whole semester. Could be worse. >.<

And watching subbed anime during Friday night /is/ cool. XD

Dude, I know. I can't figure out what's up with her. She's just a crazy old lady. Yesterday her and the other crazy old lady discussed how I wear my hair while I was standing right there.

And yeah, I wouldn't mind it so much if they played some of the nice Christmas music. But it's just the same few cheesy pop songs over and over again.

Thanks! I bet I will.

Geez, man. People are obsessed with Christmas. It's kind of sad, because I like the holiday, though it's not my favorite, and all this overkill just makes me want to get it over with it, instead of enjoying it.

And watching subbed anime during Friday night /is/ cool. XD

Hee. If you say so, then it must be true.

I know! And some of them I like, and wouldn't mind listening to. But the same 20 stupid cheesy pop ones over and over? Uh, no.

I could change it if I was willing to fight about it with the crazy old ladies, but usually I'd rather just put up with the stupid music.
