LJ and emails
Sep. 30th, 2005 09:02 pmI have redesigned my LJ! I did this partly because it's been nearly a year since I did it the last time, and I was getting sick of the old design. Thus, I now have Gaiden goodness to look at while I peruse my flist for several hours a day.
But mainly I did it to procrastinate on any of the things I actually need to do, which at the moment consists of emailing professors. You see, I am applying to grad school. I have decided to write to various professors well-known for studying the topic I would like to study. This is a brillant plan, because not only can I make contact with them, hopefully making it more likely they will look upon me favorably when I apply to their schools, but I can ask them questions about what other schools and professors I should contact, what programs I should look into, any other advice they have to offer, etc, etc.
Unfortunately, the only thing I hate more than asking people for help is asking vaguely famous people I don't know for help. I possibly have self-reliance issues. So, I'm collecting a list of email addresses but not actually writing to any of them.
Redesigning your LJ is a great procrastination tool. I spend about five minutes doing the actual HTML (which tends to involve nothing more than adding an image to one of the existing styles, because I am not terribly creative), and then I play with the colors for as many hours as I can continue to derive entertainment value from the topic (#802A00? Too brown. #992A00? Too red. #902A00? Too brown. #9A2A00? Too red. Repeat infinitely). I reccommend it.
