Wheee, busy.
Sep. 21st, 2004 11:00 pmHello all! *waves and bounces*
*clutches internet*
So, I moved into the dorms on Sunday, and I've been horribly busy the last few days. I haven't checked LJ since Saturday; I tried to catch up, but I'm sure I missed some things while I was skimming the flist. Feel free to link me to anything you think I'd like to see.
Oh, and speaking of, I wanna see the Anne Rice Amazon.com comment that everyone's talking about. Link me?
I absolutely adore my new room. So pretty. So big. So much stuff! There will be pictures later. The new roommates seem wonderfully sweet and nice, especially
minakochan, who of course I already knew was lovely and cool. *sparkles at her*
Classes start tomorrow. I had some issues with scheduling this quarter; the class I was most looking forward to was canceled months ago, and yet I wasn't able to adjust my schedule until this morning because of a hold on my account. Which means, of course, that nearly everything was entirely filled, and managing to rearrange my schedule took a lot of effort.
Anthropology 301: Modern Human Physical Variation. 5 credit hours. Tues, Thurs- 9:30-11:18
Survey of modern human biological diversity; examination of the underlying evolutionary and adaptational mechanisms responsible; exploration of the interplay between biology and behavior in adaptation.
Anthropology 553.04: New World Prehistory: Ancient Maya Civilization. 5 credit hours. Mon, Wens- 9:30-11:18
Detailed survey and examination of the ancient Maya civilization of Mesoamerica. Includes review of recent archeological and epigraphic discoveries.
Japanese 102.51: First Year Japanese II. 5 credit hours.
Elements of standard colloquial Japanese grammar, with intensive oral and written exercises; introduction to the Japanese writing system (hiragana, katakana, and kanji).
East Asian Language and Literature 131: East Asian Humanities. 5 credit hours. Mon-Fri: 12:30-1:18
Introduction to the contemporary and traditional cultures of China, Korea, and Japan taught through readings, films, demonstrations, and discussions.
I'm hoping desperately to get into this next class, and right now I'm 9 on the waitlist. If I do get in, I'll drop the East Asian class, which I'm not particularly looking forward to, but it was one of the few classes with open seats.
Comparative Studies 301: Love in World Literature. 5 credit hours. Tues, Thurs- 3:30-5:18
Representations of love in world literature; emphasis on mythological, psychological, and ideological aspects of selected representations in different cultures and time periods.
I'm scheduled for 20 hours this quarter- that's more than I've taken before. At my college, 12 hours is fulltime, and most people take 15-16. But on the other hand, I can easily drop a few hours of Japanese if it turns out to be too much.
And some links of my own, because everyone on the planet decides to write good fic when I have no time to read:
The Long Home by Dorian Gray. Yay! New story from Dorian Gray! It's been, like, a year since the last one, and this is as good as ever.
Exorcism by
gaudior. Part 1 - 2 - 3 - 4. A very good case story about Hisoka and Tsuzuki, post-Kyoto.
And if you've somehow managed not to have read it yet, Lies and Secrets by
childofatlantis. Part 1 - 2 - 3 - 4
