Looking for anime recs

I've finished watching both Gankutsuo and Loveless (I'll write them both up eventually, I'm just busy at the moment) and I need something new to watch.

Other things I've watched and enjoyed recently: Samurai Champloo, Get Backers, Full Metal Alchemist. What should I watch now? Bonus points if the show is something I can get easily off the internet instead of needing to rent it.

The only things I have watched lately have been Host Club and Princess Tutu and neither of those are anything like what you mentioned above.

Er, second time lucky? My HTML ran away with me. ^^;

I've been catching up on Ouran Host Club (oh Kyouya *_*), and I'm hoping to start Hikaru no Go as soon as I've burned enough anime off my laptop and freed up some space, as several people have been shoving nudging me towards that fandom. I've also heard some good things about Nana.

What I usually do is go to [livejournal.com profile] anime_downloads and browse through their tag index and see if I spot anything interesting. :D :D :D

Have you seen X already? Angst! Tragedy! Heroic pyrokinetic hookers who are quietly in love with soft-spoken heroic editors! More angst! More tragedy! And bonus wings!

The Last Exile: I've only just started this steampunk series about complex political wars waged via airship battles, but the animation is lovely, the plot is smart, and there are female fighter pilots.

Bleach: Clunky animation, but incredibly endearing character; also, it has the parakeet cockatiel parakeet of DOOM.

Also, you should read Naruto. It starts slow, but it slowly builds until it became the series that I am more obsessed with now than any other.

I third Ouran High School Host Club, which can be found on the internet and on YouTube, and which is still being released, as far as I can tell.

Also, I really liked Mai-HiME, though I have no idea if you've seen that or not -- it's cute and has really interesting characters.

Have you tried Twelve Kingdoms? It starts off slowly and ends up unfinished but I promise you that somewhere in between it turns out to be amazing. Wonderful world-building, strong female characters, highly slashable on several fronts.

Have you tried Last Exile? It's absolutely gorgeous, good plot, interesting characters, fighter pilots and very non-fighting pilots, mechanics and military. Some interesting exploration of honor and military and fighting and gender. I thought the ending was only okay (rather than superb which is what it had been up til then) but it's easily the most *beautiful* I've watched in a long time.

Another vote for Ouran. Sudachi and I have been watching this recently, and oh my god, the crack. Episodes 1-17 are available here: http://a.scarywater.net/lunar/

X is CLAMP tragedy, but very pretty CLAMP tragedy, and a good series.

Have you tried watching Kyou Kara Maoh? More crack, more pretty, and occassionally they have a plot! Not to mention the whole orgy aspect amongst the characters. Anime Kraze has almost all of the episodes available on bittorent...except for the last one.

Probably not one that's going to be easy to find online, since ADV seems to be good about getting downloads for their licensed series removed...but Peacemaker Kurogane is another cool series. Wonderful artwork, interesting characters, and a nice mix of humor and angst.

And I think that'll do.

Echoing the above : if you haven't seen Kyou Kara Maou, you really should.

Boy gets flushed down toilet into another world, discovers he's the new king of the demons. He is then aided, affianced to, and protected by an assortment of really attractive men. Also, drop bears are canon.

Makes for incredibly shiny crack right up till ep. 27, when it grows a plot. (and continues to be shiny, with angst included. ^.^)

My friend GAil is all about Rozen Maiden right now, she's been getting it from YouTube apparently.

*bows* Forgive me for intruding

I've recently downloaded all of Rose of Versailles, and I like it a lot. It's old (from the 70's I believe), but the animation is very nice. The plot is interesting and engaging.

Oh, and the main character is an attractive blond with a weapon. (Though her personality is not anything like Sanzo or Hisoka's. Still... blond with weapon.)

Oh yeah, I give another vote for Ouran and KKM.
