Music!
I made a mix that I'm mailing out to people as part of
audiography's Mix Trade, but I decided to share it with you lovely people as well. Locked only because I'm not entirely sure how that fits with the rules of the trade.
I always like to make a mix with a theme, or that tells a story, or whatever. And since lately I've been collecting a great deal of songs about cities (particularly New York), I decided to use that. I was also going to make one about loneliness in cities (because I like depressing music, I suppose) but it turned out that I only had enough music for about half a mix of that, and the rest were happy songs. I didn't make any cover art for this round because, um, I'm lazy and didn't feel like it.
Concrete Jungle
1. New York City Heat - Dead Heat Bloom
city's gonna let me down like it must do
2. City and the Streets - Rubik
bound to feel despair
3. Wine, Women, and Song - Harvey Danger
now I study the poetry of a studio apartment
4. Ne Me Quitter Pas - Regina Spektor
down in the Bowery they lose their ballads
5. In the Arms of the City - All My Pretty Ones
you will shed some tears
6. Eliot - Sarah Slean
you fill buildings with people and they rip at the seams
7. Message to God - Matthew Good Band
she lived alone in a one-room apartment
8. New York I Love You - LCD Soundsystem
like a death in the hall that you hear through the wall
9. Draw Down the Stars - Tom McRae
throw your streets around me and squeeze
10. Cathedrals (Acoustic) - Jump, Little Children
there is a feeling that you should just go home
11. Get Lonely - The Mountain Goats
stand in the shadows of buildings
12. There Is a Light That Never Goes Out - David Ford
I want to see people and I want to see lights"
13. Brooklyn Train - Lucy Kaplansky
safe in the body of New York again
14. Monkey!!! Knife!!! Fight!!! - Minus the Bear
the city lights just blur
15. New York City Lights - Sophie Ellis-Bextor
we could lose ourselves and start a new life
16. Cells - The Servant
on the city's skin they move en masse
17. Attitude - Suede
sat on the metro with love on her mind
18. We're So Heavy - Matthew Good
how can you love Jove, Drusilla, and forsake Rome?
19. The Forest Scares the Hell Out of Me - Say Hi to Your Mom
I miss the city, the buildings, where the brick's the only thing that's exposed
20. The Gold Finch and the Red Oak Tree - Ted Leo & The Pharmacists
as I did walk through cities one Saturday
The whole zip!
Okay. Now I'm going to go get some dinner, and then I really, seriously, oh-my-god-I-can't believe-it's-due-tomorrow have to finish that one story.
