I agree with you that writing is communication, too. Although you don't want to tailor yourself completely to the demands of your audience- because that way just leads to the horrible fics on ff.net that demand 'R&R or I won't continue!!!1!' but on the other hand, you do have to be able to convey your ideas and meanings. It's like the old writing saying, 'The message received is the message sent'.
