It's Yuletide time! Hooray!

Hello and thank you for offering one of my fandoms! I'm looking forward to whatever you write, and if you want to completely ignore the rest of this letter, or pick and choose just a few things, that's totally fine. I've tried to write a shorter letter this year. If you want more information click here for previous years' letters. Anything I've asked for before I would still love to get.

AO3 name: Brigdh

Basics
– I love all ratings, from G to NC-17. A lot of the prompts I give below are focused on ships, but feel free to write me the characters as platonic friends instead if that's what you prefer. Gen and PWPs are both awesome!
– Feel free to include injury, illness, death, infidelity, racism, homophobia, classism, etc, as needed for your story. Or feel free to ignore such elements of the canons below! I'm good either way.
– A lot of my requested canons are historical fiction. I DO NOT require you to have done research to write them. Trust me, I won't care if you use a modern word or describe the wrong style of clothing. I'm not an expert either.
– For each of my requests, the characters are very much OR instead of AND. Want to write a story about Rose without Hannibal, Rosalee without Cato, etc? Go ahead! You could probably guess this from the prompts I give below, but I wanted to be clear about it.
– Weird stylistic writing choices, like second person POV, a series of linked drabbles, unreliable narrators, five times fic, etc, are all totally okay. I enjoy reading experiments!

DNWs
– amnesia
– de-aging
– mpreg (I do love A/B/O fic; if you want to write that, feel free to mention mpreg in the worldbuilding. Just please don't make it the main focus of the fic)
– Groundhog Day AUs
– 24/7 lifestyle BDSM

Yes, please!
– AUs, especially: modern AU, historical AU (as in, any historical period other than the one in canon), A/B/O, pirates, Wild West, cyberpunk, postapocalypse, circuses, canon-divergence
– found families, families of choice, and loyalty kink. I especially love it when there are reasons why it's difficult or unusual for the characters to have a relationship, but they defy expectations by being devoted to one another anyway.
– I LOVE one character risking their life/sacrificing themselves to protect another. "I thought you were dead!" is also an excellent trope
– casefic would be great, especially if you could combine it with slowburn get-together of one of my ships. I realize that’s a lot to ask of a writer. But just in case you want to write long casefic: I would love to receive it!
– hurt/comfort of all kinds, especially if the comfort leads to a deepening relationship. People getting ill, people getting beat up, people choosing to be tortured to protect someone else, people hiding injuries while trying to soldier on, people enduring long-term poor conditions (especially cold! I HATE being cold, and so I deeply identify with a character barely avoiding hypothermia), last minute rescues, confessions of feelings due to thinking you're about to die, caretaking, giving the hurt character a bath (especially hair washing!), and characters learning to be loved.
– iron woobies, always and forever
– established relationships are my jam. Show me how comfortable people have gotten with each other, how they know one another well enough to know all of their jokes and triggers and erogenous zones. And established doesn't have to mean problem-free! There's all sorts of troubles that tend to come up in relationships long after the first time. For example, I'd love a story about a fight and working through it.
– arranged marriages/marriages of convenience and fake dating are some of my favorite stories. I love all of it: the awkwardness, the enforced intimacy, the pining over 'my feelings are real but yours are pretend', the trust despite the difficulty, the teaming up to put on a good show for outside observers.
– slice-of-life, domesticity, missing scenes, and curtain-fic are all wonderful. I am totally fine with a very low-stakes story, as long as I get to see my favorite characters going about a normal day, enjoying themselves with one another, making jokes, etc.
- I adore all sorts of silly fanfic tropes, but here are some of my favorites: Genderswap (particularly of the "always-a-girl/boy" type rather than "woke up one morning" type), crossdressing, roadtrips, huddling for warmth, masquerades/disguises/undercover, trapped together (snowed in cabin, handcuffs, etc), friends-to-lovers and especially FWB to more, sex pollen, and platonic bed sharing.

Porn: I love everything from PWP to fade-to-black to gen. If you want specifics, I'll have a comment up under the Yuleporn post soon.

Specific fandom requests: Benjamin January, Hadestown, Underground, The Ballad of Black Tom )
brigdh: (Default)
(Everybody sign up with me! :D Go here for more details.)

Hi! Thank you so much for matching me! I'm looking forward to whatever I receive.
If you would like more information than what's below, check out some of my previous exchange letters. Anything I've asked for before is still welcome. On the other hand, I'm a big believer in "Optional Details Are Optional", so feel free to ignore all of this and do whatever you want.

In general, I'm a big fan of H/C, porn, casefic, missing scenes, loyalty kink and chosen families, both established relationship and first times, humor, dark fic, epistolary fic, pining, road trips, AUs, and curtainfic/slice of life. I don't have any strong DNWs.

My requests:
Benjamin January Mysteries - Barbara Hambly
Benjamin January, Rose Vitrac January, group: Benjamin January & Rose Vitrac January & Hannibal Sefton
In this fandom, I ship: Ben/Rose, Ben/Ayasha, Ben/Hannibal, Rose/Cora, Rose/Hannibal, and Ben/Rose/Hannibal. However, I'm also really into fic about any of these people as friends, or character study fic!

- Really, I'd love to read anything at all about my OT3. Domestic fluff with them cooking and playing music and making dumb Latin jokes and critiquing opera or whatever. I'm sure Hannibal would be very willing to help either of them expand their sexual repertoire. Give them a new case to solve, or an adventure that doesn't start with Ben playing detective! Are there backstories to the nicknames Hannibal uses for them, Athene and amicus meus? I would LOVE a first time fic set post-'Crimson Angel', where the events of that book leads to a change in their relationship.
- For a focus on Rose/Hannibal, how did their first meeting go? How about Hannibal teaching Rose to pick locks (and/or the two of them attempting to teach Ben)? I'd love to hear more about what Rose was thinking during 'Dead and Buried', and what she thinks about Hannibal's backstory. I also LOVE their fake-relationship in 'Crimson Angel', so more about that, please.
- For Ben/Hannibal, the world NEEDS furtive make-outs in the backroom of some opera/ball/private party. Or tell me about Ben's feelings when Hannibal moves away to Mexico. These trips to Mexico and DC are also excellent opportunities for epistolary fic.
- I'd also love something about Rose and Cora, either as children or after Cora comes to New Orleans, or about Rose and Chloe being academic women friends.
- Ben/Ayasha: I want to know everything about their relationship, from beginning to end. An AU where Ayasha gets to meet either Rose or Hannibal would also be wonderful.
- This fandom does not yet have a single modern AU! You should write one. :D
- If you want to write gen, Rose-backstory about her time at school in New York would be AMAZING. I would also LOVE fic about Ben and his family – either during his childhood or as an adult. His relationships with Livia, Dominique, and Olympe are all complex and wonderful. I'm also curious to know more about his feelings regarding St-Denis Janvier.

Fanart requests: Feel free to use anything above, if you see something inspiring! But I suspect a lot of my fic requests don't translate well to art, so here's some art-specific ideas.
- I would love, love, love a daemon AU. I don't like these as much in fic, since they don't seem to lend themselves to plot, but I adore them in art. I really want to see what animals you think the different characters would have as daemons! (I have my own ideas, but I don't want to stifle your creativity. But if you're curious, feel free to ask through the mods/leave an anonymous comment/whatever.)
- Being able to see a moment from canon would be wonderful. You can look back through my Benjamin January tag for some of my favorite quotes and the scenes I talk about the most, but also feel free to chose your own favorite.
- Hair kink! Both Rose and Hannibal have long hair, so I'd love to see art about other characters generally doing things with it: combing, braiding, washing, putting it up, taking it down, etc.
- Mardi Gras party! I'd love to see what costumes the characters chose.

Underground (TV)
Cato, Noah, Rosalee
In this fandom, I ship Cato/Noah/Rosalee, as well as any two out of the three. However, I'm also really into fic about any of these people as friends (or, well, tense companions), or character study fic!

– Shippy fic YES. First times, established relationships – whatever you like. I just want to see them snarking and testing one another (and possibly outright punching between Noah and Cato) and rescuing each other and slowly learning to trust. And also kiss.
– I'd really love a fic about them reuniting after the events of the finale. Unfortunately, I realize that would probably involve tens of thousands of words, and I'm not going to require that of you. Though I wouldn't say no if you want to write it! :D Feel free to timeskip ahead and/or use an AU if that works for you.
– I loved the episode where Cato and Rosalee dressed up and pretended to be married. A missing scene from there (or what if they had had to spend the night like that?) examining their feelings would be wonderful.
– Backstory about any of them would be great. We've only gotten little hints about their lives before this season, and I'd love to see more of that filled out. Noah and Rosalee seem to have never spoken before episode one, but what about Noah and Cato? Or Cato and Rosalee? Or feel free to focus on just one character, if you prefer. I'd also really love to read more about Noah's friendship with Henry.
– I'm really interested in the question of if Rosalee knows how to read. It seems like she might? A story about her teaching one or both of the others would be lovely. Or about all three of them learning!
– An AU with them in some less-awful life would make me happy. Perhaps they're still running a heist! Or perhaps they have some more straightforward problems.
– I would also be really into Rosalee/Elizabeth fic set during the finale. C'mon, there was totally sexual tension there! :D

Titus Andronicus - Shakespeare
Aaron
Many of Shakespeare's villains (Iago, Lady Macbeth, Richard III) get lots of attention – meta, fic, art, actors describing what great roles they are to play – but Aaron is my very favorite, and almost no one ever talks about him. :( He is, in many ways, a stereotype, and yet he's also exteremly aware of how he is perceived by the society around him. There's several lines that suggest he's deliberately turning himself into what's expected of him. He's such a complex character! I love how dramatically, straightforwardly, wonderfully evil he is. I love his anger, I love his arrogance (that swagger! ♥ He basically drops a 'yo mamma' joke, how amazing is that?), I love his relationship with Tamora, and I love how he sacrifices everything he has to try and save his son and yet still refuses to admit wrongdoing: "If one good deed in all my life I did, / I do repent it from my very soul." AH LOVE. He is a complicated, stubborn, self-centered villain, and I adore him.

– How did he get this way? What was Aaron's childhood, his parents? How does a Moor end up among the goths anyway?
– The Tamora/Aaron relationship is pretty fascinating to me, and I'd love the backstory on how they met and their early days together. He seems pretty good at playing the game of politics – what was his role in Tamora's Queendom? He seems to not care at all when she marries Saturninus – regard it as a good thing, in fact! How exactly did such an open relationship come to be, and how does it work?
– I LOVE his relationship with his son, how he instantly gives up everything his life has been to try and rescue a baby. An AU where he actually gets away and gets to raise his son would be awesome. What would Aaron be like as a father? Does he "want his soul black", or would the act of raising a child change his perspective somewhat? What would he tell the kid about his past? Where would they go to live?
– One of the huge themes of Titus Andronicus is revenge, and yet Aaron seems to be the only character not primarily motivated by revenge. Or is he? Does he have some secret backstory we don't see in the play? Or, if not, what does he think of all this going on around him? What is his motivation?
– Apparently during the Victorian period, a rewritten version starring Aaron as the virtuous hero, friends with chaste Tamora, became popular. I feel a meta fic, where the "original" Aaron becomes aware of this,
could be HILARIOUS. Or sad! Depending on how you want to write it.
– AUs: always a plus. Modern day? Elizabethan era? Crossovers with other Shakespeare plays would also be great!

Fanart requests: Feel free to use anything above, if you see something inspiring! But I suspect a lot of my fic requests don't translate well to art, so here's some art-specific ideas.
– Daemon AU, yes, always.
– Poster art advertising the play (and Aaron specifically, of course)
– Aaron and his baby: YES PLEASE. Cute, creepy, however you like, I just would love to see them together.
– A piece inspired by this line would be GREAT:
I will be bright, and shine in pearl and gold,
To wait upon this new-made empress.
To wait, said I? to wanton with this queen,
This goddess, this Semiramis, this nymph,
This siren, that will charm Rome's Saturnine,
And see his shipwreck and his commonweal's.

Or any of the other scenes in canon.

Thanks again! I can't wait to see what you make.

(Yes! I'm signing up! And you should too. Go here for more details.)

Hi! Thank you so much for offering to write for me! I love smut, I love all these ships and all these kinks, and I’m so looking forward to whatever you choose to write.

Here's where to find me, if you're interested in more information:
AO3: Brigdh
Tumblr: Brigdh
Livejournal: wordsofastory
Dreamwidth: Brigdh

Here’s a link to my previous exchange letters, if that’s a thing you’re interested in reading. Most of them are longer than this letter, ha, since I’m trying to be brief for once.

Here's a list of general kinks that I'm interested in. I didn't actually request any of these because I didn't have specific prompts for them, but feel free to include them in your story, for any of these ships, if you want to. You can either make them a background detail or the whole focus of the story, if you prefer that to what we actually matched on! ‘Thank God We're Alive' Sex, Banter, Begging, Biting, Breathplay, Clothing Kink, Cunnilingus, Desperate Arousal/Sexual Frustration, Established Relationship, Forced Orgasm, Hand Kink, Lazy/Gentle Sex, Orgasm control/edging, Obedience, Overstimulation, Pegging, Praise Kink, Roleplay, Rough sex, Sex for Warmth/Sharing Body Heat, Something Made Them Do It, Trying to Stay Quiet, Verbal Bondage/Honor Bondage, Wall Sex

My requests:
Benjamin January
Ships: Benjamin January/Hannibal Sefton, Benjamin January/Rose Vitrac January/Hannibal Sefton
Kinks: Alternate Universe - Canonical Male Character is Always a Girl, Bath Sex, Omega Verse, Writing on the Body, Fake/Pretend Relationship, Crossdressing, Hair Kink

Alternate Universe - Canonical Male Character is Always a Girl: I would totally love an AU where Ben had always been a girl. I’d love to see how that would have changed his family and society’s expectations of him, his personality (or not), and his goals in life. Would he have become a placée, for example? If I was writing the story, I’d keep Rose and Hannibal as their canonical genders, but feel free to play around with whatever works for you.

Bath Sex: I love bath sex in pretty much all my fandoms, but something about historical fandoms adds an extra appeal. There’s all the work of actually setting up a bath: carrying water, heating it, bringing the tub out of storage, setting it up near a fireplace for warmth (well, maybe that last one isn’t necessary in NOLA, but it’s such a pretty image!). Anything from rustic desperate baths (in a river?) to fancy elaborate ones (they’re staying in an expensive hotel for some reason?) is awesome. If you want to add in a H/C element, with the one bathing being sick or injured, and the other providing care, that would be delicious but isn’t necessary.

Omega Verse: YES IT IS MY FAVORITE RIDICULOUS TROPE. I see Hannibal as an omega, Rose as an alpha, and Ben as either a beta or an alpha, depending on how you write the world-building. But don’t feel obligated to stick with that! I’d love to see what you come up with. The elements of omegaverse that I’m most interested in are heats (SO HOT), pheromones/scents, instincts, and social roles and people who don’t fit them. I’m less interested in the mpeg part of it, so feel free to drop that or just not dwell excessively on it, if you can.

Writing on the Body: All of these characters are so literate, so given to reciting quotations (in many, many languages), that this just seems like a natural fit for them. I've got no preference for who is writing and who is being written on, so go wild.

Fake/Pretend Relationship: I would especially like this if Hannibal and Rose were in the pretend relationship, and there was a lot of pining and awkwardness because Rose/Ben are established, before ending in a happy OT3 (with lots of sex!). Feel free to set this during ‘Crimson Angel’ when there is actually a fake relationship setup (HAMBLY I LOVE YOU) or during some invented other time. If you’d prefer a different set-up, though, feel free! I love any and all variations of this trope.

Crossdressing: Rose and Hannibal have both canonically crossdressed – I need the sexy version of that! Or Ben can crossdress too, that would also be great. Whether it’s for reasons of solving some mystery, or they just decide to dress up for fun, I love it all. Possibly combine this with pegging and/or roleplaying for extra kinks.

Hair Kink: To me, “hair kink” means a character (or characters) doing stuff to another character’s hair: brushing, washing, cutting, braiding, putting it up with pins and combs, taking it down from an elaborate hairstyle, etc. Rose and Hannibal have long hair, so they seem like the natural recipients of such attention, but if you can come up with fun stuff for them to do to Ben’s hair, I would be totally down with that too. I just like the gentleness, the care and affection and physical animal pleasure of having hair played with.

The Road to El Dorado (2000)
Ships: Chel/Miguel/Tulio (note: this is the only ship I officially requested, but I also ship all possible combinations of two out of these three characters, so if you want to focus on just two of them, that’s fine)
Kinks: Dirty Talk, Drug-Induced Sex/Sex Pollen, Dom/sub, Service Kink, Ritual Sex, Danger

Dirty Talk: they’re all three fast-talking, slick, con artists! I want to see how they use those skills in bed. Name-calling is fine, as long as all characters are into it. Lots of funny banter would be excellent as well.

Drug-Induced Sex/Sex Pollen: this is a trope that I always love, and this canon seems like just the sort of vague fantasy that would be a good fit for it! Whether it’s magic, or a mysterious new plant/herb/spice/whatever, I’d love to see these three accidentally get sex-pollened. Awkward mornings after would be a big bonus, but I’d prefer the tone to be hot, light, and fun, and not so much with the potential consent issues in such a situation.

Dom/sub, Service Kink: I’d love Chel as the top and Miguel and/or Tulio as the subs, but however you want to arrange them is fine by me. I’d prefer to see this as something new to them, something that they’re slowly exploring and figuring out. A lot of arguing about who gets to top and tricking the others into bottoming would be ideal!

Ritual Sex: Okay, so: imagine if the new ‘gods’ had had to prove their divine status by having sex with the priestess. HOT, RIGHT? You can either have this be an actual myth in El Dorado, or something that Chel makes up and tells the other two for her own benefit.

Danger: One of the characters realizes that the danger of a con turns them on; the other(s) helps them out. Or even one of them likes to have sex in dangerous places: semi-public, on a roof, in a church, after being arrested, whatever. I would also love to see them interrupting themselves during a con by getting too caught up with flirting with one another, until they let the potential mark slip away in their distraction. (If you could work in fake relationships or secret relationships to such a scenario, that would be awesome!)

Leverage
Ships: Alec Hardison/Parker/Eliot Spencer
Kinks: Fake/Pretend Relationship, Handcuffs, Lipstick on men, Roleplay, Injured Sex, Danger

Fake/Pretend Relationship: I would especially like this if Eliot and Parker were in the pretend relationship, and there was a lot of pining and awkwardness because Parker/Hardison are established, before ending in a happy OT3 (with lots of sex!), but however you want to write this is fine by me. I love any and all variations of this trope.

Handcuffs: Mmmm, yes, super hot. I don’t have a preference for who’s in the handcuffs and who’s on top, so feel free to do your own thing!

Lipstick on men: Either Harrison or Eliot (or both!) as the one wearing the makeup is fine. I’d love lots of focus on choosing the makeup, applying it, the finished appearance, and then mussing it up. Whether this is part of a con or just for fun is up to you.

Roleplay: There’s so much roleplaying as part of their cons! I’d love to see one of them realizing that some role turns the other on, and taking it into the bedroom (not necessarily literally - hallway sex or car sex or whatever is totally welcome as well!). There was the time Parker was a nun, the time Harrison was a Cockney diamond thief and the other time he was a violin musician, Eliot as art critic or journalist or basically any time he had to wear glasses (ELIOT IN GLASSES IS SO HOT), really, take any example from canon or make up some new ones of your own and I’ll love it!

Injured Sex: I’d love this as H/C fic, with one character having been injured on the job, and the other(s) very carefully sexing them up, trying to avoid making the injury worse. If you want to include lots of pining and “I almost lost you!”, that would be great! On the other hand, I could also see them (Parker especially) treating the injury as no big deal, or even a fun challenge to figure out how to have sex around.

Danger: One of the characters realizes that the danger of the job turns them on; the other(s) helps them out. I have a slight preference for this being Parker, but any of the three would be excellent.
brigdh: (<3)
Hi! Thank you so much for offering one of my fandoms. I look forward to whatever you write, and if you want to completely ignore the rest of this letter, that's totally fine. I am a big supporter of "optional details are optional". If anything is unclear or you want to ask a question, please feel free to contact me through the mods or leave an anonymous comment, and I'll reply as soon as possible. Some of my fandoms have more prompts than others. Please believe that has to do with how long I've been in a fandom, and not how much I care about it! I've simply had time to think about some canons more than others.

If you're into Yuletide stalking (and who isn't?), here's where to find me:
Email: brigdh at gmail
AO3: Brigdh (You'll probably notice that I've written for some of the fandoms I requested, but that doesn't mean you have to write the same sort of stories that I do. One of my favorite things is to see the way different people have different takes on the same story.)
Tumblr: Brigdh
Livejournal: [livejournal.com profile] wordsofastory (obviously.)
Previous years' letters

Basics:
I'm open to porn, dark-fic, gen, and pretty much anything else you could think of. Happy endings, sad endings, and open/ambiguous endings are all welcome. Want to write death fic or angsty unrequited love? Go for it! Fluffy, teeth-rottingly cute kidfic? I'm into that. Completely filthy, shameless PWP? Yup. Plotty adventure or casefic? Love it. Missing scenes or worldbuilding/character studies where nothing happens? My favorite! Tentative slow-build first times, or fic with already established relationships? Both are wonderful! Weird stylistic conventions, like second person POV or iambic pentameter or unreliable narrators? Awesome!
- Feel free to include injury, illness, death, infidelity, racism, homophobia, classism, etc, as needed for your story. Or feel free to ignore such elements of the canons below! I'm good either way.
- Do not feel obligated to include Christmas (or whatever winter holiday-equivalent is appropriate to the fandom), but if you want to, feel free.
- For each of my requests, the characters are very much OR instead of AND. Want to write a story about Rose without Hannibal, TJ without Amal, etc? Go ahead! (You could probably guess this from the prompts I give below, but I wanted to be clear about it.)
- I also give prompts for characters I didn't request, and I want to give explicit permission that you are absolutely allowed to ignore my requested characters and write for any other character I mention. Or you can ignore those prompts, of course, if you prefer the characters we matched on!
- You'll notice that I list ships in each of my requests. This is just to provide useful information. I am always equally happy to read any of those relationships as platonic friends instead of lovers, or gen focused on a single character.

Dislikes:
I'm doing these first because there's fewer of them! I don't have any squicks, triggers, or strong DNWs (there's one exception, but it's fandom-specific, so I've got it down below in that fandom's section). There's very little in fic that I outright refuse to read; a good story will convince me to like almost anything. With that said, here are some of the tropes that I'm less interested in: soulbonding and soul mates; amnesia; bodyswap; mpreg; jealousy or possessiveness as a good, natural, or normal relationship element; Groundhog Day AUs; age difference as a kink (some of my ships canonically have age differences, and that's fine. Just please don't play it up as a power differential) and age regression. That's it! I'm a pretty easy-going reader. :)

Likes:
This section is much more fun! I like A LOT of stuff, as I said above. Action, case-fic, humor, curtain-fic, introspection, pining: all of them are great! I love nuance and subtlety (hmm, that is probably the worst request ever. I like it when authors complicate things?). I really love stories that dig deep, exploring a world or a character's interior.
- I LOVE found families, families of choice, loyalty kink, and everything similar to that. I especially love it when there are reasons why it's difficult or unusual for the characters to have a relationship, but they defy expectations by being devoted to one another anyway. I LOVE one character risking their life/sacrificing themselves to protect another. I really like it when characters show affection in unusual ways: if someone can never express themselves through words, but has to do it through touch; if someone expresses "I love you" by saying "ugh, you're the worst"; if someone always has to turn deep moments into a joke because their feelings are too strong to express seriously. Loyalty kink expressed through service or some kind of support (being your second in a fight! back-up in a debate! general sidekick duties) would be excellent. I'm also a big fan of poly relationships - the more the merrier! :D This can be happy threesomes where the feelings are equal on all three sides, but feel free to also write about messy relationships, about V-shaped relationships, about negotiations that go wrong, about characters who do not equally love all their partners.
- Established relationships are my jam. Show me how comfortable people have gotten with each other, how they know one another well enough to know all of their jokes and triggers and erogenous zones. And established doesn't have to mean problem-free! There's all sorts of troubles that tend to come up in relationships long after the first time, and I'd love a story about a fight and working through it. (Or resulting in a break-up, that'd be good too.)
- Hurt/comfort of all kinds, especially if the comfort leads to a deepening relationship. People getting ill, people getting beat up, people choosing to be tortured to protect someone else, people hiding injuries while trying to soldier on, people enduring long-term poor conditions (especially cold! I HATE being cold, and so I deeply identify with a character barely avoiding hypothermia), last minute rescues, confessions of feelings due to thinking you're about to die, care-taking, giving the hurt character a bath (especially hair washing!), and characters learning to be loved.
- I love funny stories, and all sorts of humor and banter and snark. Comedies of manners and farces are MY FAVORITES.
- I love vivid imagery and rich descriptions (it is hard to be too 'purple prose' for my taste), and all the things that fall under that: clothing-porn, food-porn, elaborately detailed settings and landscapes, etc. I love historical details and characters who make lots of obscure allusions in their dialogue. Epistolary fic is a HUGE favorite of mine. I also love stuff dealing with language itself, and how it can be used well or poorly: language barriers, bilingual conversations, translations, code-switching, slang, jargon, secret codes – anything and everything like that is like candy to me.
- I adore all sorts of silly fanfic tropes, but here are some of my favorites: Genderswap (particularly of the "always-a-girl/boy" type rather than "woke up one morning" type), crossdressing, arranged marriage/marriage of convenience, pretend couple/fake dating, roadtrips, huddling for warmth, masquerades/disguises/undercover, trapped together (snowed in cabin, handcuffs, etc), "five things", swordfights, sexual tension (mutual or not; resolved or unresolved), friends-to-lovers and especially FWB to more, sex pollen, A/B/O, and platonic bed sharing.
- I love AUs, both of the "canon divergent" and the "completely alternative setting" types. I think they're a fantastic way of exploring what is essential to a character's personality, and what is merely surface, and that's what I find most interesting about them. It's so neat to explore how a different setting/upbringing/choice might or might not change a person. Some specific types of AUs I like are: pirates, pretty much any historical period, Robin Hood/conmen/criminals, rebels, steampunk, cyberpunk, apocalypses (especially zombies!), daemons, and circuses.

Porn: I love everything from PWP to ship fic with fade-to-black to gen. If you're interested in including sex scenes in your fic, my details are here.

Specific Fandom Requests – Benjamin January, Finishing School, The Less Than Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal, Sorceror to the Crown )
brigdh: (I need things on a grander scale)
Hi! :D Thank you so much for writing for me. I'm looking forward to whatever you write. This is going to be a short letter, because I think my usual ones might be excessive. That said, if you want more information, please feel free to check out my older letters! Anything I've asked for in the past I would still love to receive.

I like pretty much every genre: porn, gen, plot, humor, and angst are all awesome. I have no strong DNWs. Feel free to include violence, death, infidelity, racism, homophobia, etc, as needed for your story.

I adore all sorts of silly fanfic tropes, but here are some of my favorites: Genderswap (particularly of the "always-a-girl/boy" type rather than "woke up one morning" type), arranged marriage/marriage of convenience, pretend couple/fake dating, H/C of all kinds, sick-fic, roadtrips, huddling for warmth, masquerades/disguises/undercover, trapped together (snowed in cabin, handcuffs, etc), "five things", and platonic bed sharing.

Some specific types of AUs I like are: pirates, any historical period, Robin Hood/conmen/criminals, rebels, steampunk, cyberpunk, apocalypses (especially zombies!), daemons, and circuses.

Hello! Thank you so much for offering one of my fandoms. I'm a firm believer of "optional details are optional", so feel free to ignore any part of this letter that doesn't work for you; just use what (if any) you find helpful or inspirational. If you need more information or would like to ask a question, feel free to leave an anonymous comment.

If you're into Yuletide stalking (and who isn't?), here's where to find me:
Email: brigdh at gmail
AO3: Brigdh (You'll probably notice that I've written for some of the fandoms I requested, but that doesn't mean you have to write the same sort of stories that I do! One of my favorite things is to see the way different people have different takes on the same story.)

Yup. Plotty world-building fic? Love it. Missing scenes or character studies where nothing happens? My favorite! Tentative slow-build first times, or fic with an already established relationship? Both are wonderful! Weird stylistic conventions, like second person POV or iambic pentameter or an entirely epistolary fic? Awesome! Feel free to include injury, illness, death, infidelity, racism, homophobia, etc, as needed for your story.
Do not feel obligated to include Christmas (or whatever winter holiday-equivalent is appropriate to the fandom), but if you want to, feel free.
For each of my requests, the characters are very much OR instead of AND. Want to write a story about Rose without Hannibal, TJ without Amal, etc? Go ahead! (You could probably guess this from the prompts I give below, but I wanted to be clear about it.)

Dislikes:
I'm doing these first because it's shorter! I don't have any squicks, triggers, or strong DNWs (there's one exception, but it's fandom-specific, so I've got it down below in that fandom's section). There's very little in fic that I outright refuse to read; a good story will convince me to like almost anything. With that said, here are some of the tropes that I'm less interested in: soulbonding and soul mates; amnesia; bodyswap; mpreg; jealousy or possessiveness as a good, natural, or normal relationship element; overly sappy weddings or marriage proposals; and age regression. That's it! I'm a pretty easy-going reader. :)

Likes:
This section is much more fun! I like A LOT of stuff, as I said above. Action, case-fic, humor, curtain-fic, introspection, pining: all of them are great! I like fun stories, the sort that make you smile to read them. I love nuance and subtlety (hmm, that is probably the worst request ever. I like it when authors complicate things?). I really love stories that dig deep, exploring a world or a character's interior.
Most of the characters I love are pretty fucked up on the inside, but they are also capable of great strength. I like that balance: not a woobie but not a standard hero either. Many of my requests revolve around a relationship (whether you chose to write that as gen or romantic), and I really love reading about how people work (or don't) together. How do they help one another? How do they hurt? How do they understand or misunderstand? Do they share a sense of humor? What is easy between them, and what is complicated; what is spoken and what is not? Etc. In general, I like my couples to succeed together, but I like it to be hard to get there. I tend to like a lot of dysfunction in my fictional relationships, and I much prefer the unspoken to the outright-stated.
I love vivid imagery and rich descriptions (it is hard to be too 'purple prose' for my taste), and all the things that fall under that: clothing-porn, food-porn, elaborately detailed settings and landscapes, etc. I love banter and snark and elusive allusions, all sorts of unusual ways of showing affection, cross-dressing, swordfights, comedies of manners/farces, and found families/chosen families.
I especially like AUs, both of the "canon-divergent" and the "completely alternative setting" types. I think they're a fantastic way of exploring what is essential to a character's personality, and what is merely surface, and that's what I find most interesting about them. It's so neat to explore how a different setting/upbringing/choice might or might not change a person. Some specific types of AUs I like are: pirates, any historical period, Robin Hood/conmen/criminals, rebels, steampunk, cyberpunk, apocalypses (especially zombies!), daemons, and circuses.

Porn: Again, don't feel obligated to write me a sex scene! But if you want to, here is my Yuleporn comment.
Dark-fic: As I said above, I'm open to this! Here's my Crueltide comment for some specific prompts.

Specific Fandom Requests: Benjamin January, TJ & Amal, Brothers Sinister, and Fallen London )

Dear Ship Swap Creator,

Thank you for signing up for one of my fandoms! This is my first year doing Ship Swap, and I'm very excited to read what you write or see what you draw. Feel free to ignore any part of this letter that doesn't work for you; just use what (if any) you find helpful. I'm much less experienced with giving art prompts, but please don't think that means I want art less! If you need more information or would like to ask a question, feel free to leave an anon comment or email me. My AO3 name is Brigdh, and so is my email (at gmail).

I'm completely fine with a G-rated and mostly gen story/art; something with a few kisses and fade-to-black; or filthy, filthy porn. I like it all!

General things I like: action, angst, anti-heroes, banter, backstory, case fic, character studies, clever dialogue and wordplay, curtainfic and domesticity, endings happy sad or bittersweet, difficult and complex relationships, epistolary stories, established relationships, fairy tales, five things, found families, friendship, geeks, H/C, humor, missing scenes, people with flaws, pining, road trips, unreliable narrators, unspoken feelings, AUs both canon-divergent and entirely off-the-wall (some particular AUs I like are: pirates, any historical period, Robin Hood/conmen/criminals, rebels, steampunk, cyberpunk, apocalypses, daemons, Rule 63, arranged marriages, and circuses).

General dislikes: jealousy, mpreg, overly sappy weddings/marriage proposals. That's... kind of it! I'm a pretty easy-going reader.

Don't feel obligated to write me porn! But if you want to, here are some things I like about sex specifically: rough sex with biting and bruising, sex up against a wall, sex in a place where the participants might be overheard and they have to try very hard to stay quiet, people holding their partner down during sex. I also like sex that is playful and silly and allows for laughter, and where everything doesn't go right. Intimate deep-feelings romantic sex is of course also fantastic! I like crossdressing (both men in women's clothing and women in men's), someone dressing against their normal type (so, someone who normally dresses casually getting all dressed up, or the opposite, someone who normally wears formal clothes wearing something old and worn), all sorts of general elaborate clothing descriptions, people helping one another get dressed or undressed, people wearing their partner's clothes, people having sex while still wearing most of their clothes. Anything with hair: playing with it, pulling on it, washing it, combing it, braiding it for someone else. People helping one another bathe, and sex in bathtubs or showers or swimming pools. I like sex that is non-penetrative: oral sex, frottage, hand jobs, fingering, mutual masturbation, intercrural... basically anything you can come up with! Though penetrative sex is super hot, too, and feel free to write it, I just don't like when people treat that as the only "real" kind of sex. I like writing or painting or drawing on skin, and descriptions of tattoos or scars. I prefer established relationships, but fumbly first-time sex is very good too. Dirty talk is SUPER HOT. I love cheesy sex-pollen/fuck-or-die/heat type situations. Body worship, especially focused on wrists or hips or necks is always hot. I love super dramatic OTT h/c, with a character being captured and tormented physically and emotionally by Bad Guys before being saved and comforted with sex. I like extremes of weather and temperature: sex in the rain, sex on a sticky-hot summer afternoon, preventing-hypothermia-in-the-winter sex.
Some other kinks I like: bondage or honor bondage/silence, blindfolds, pegging, breathplay, knifeplay, bloodplay, D/s, power exchanges, switching, orgasm delay or teasing or edging, threesomes and moresomes.

I don't have any squicks or triggers. There are plenty of kinks that I'm not particularly into, but if you can make a convincing argument that the characters are into it, I will love reading about it.

Repost of my specific requests below the cut, if anyone's interested. Fandoms: Ben January; Les Mis; Game of Thrones; Shakespeare; Crossovers )

Sign-ups for [livejournal.com profile] shipswap continue until Feb 10!

Hello!

Thank you so much for offering one of my fandoms! You clearly have excellent taste. I am a firm believer of "optional details are optional", so feel free to use these comments as inspiration, or write something entirely else. Most of all, I'd like you to write a story that you're happy with.

In general, I really admire any story that can do plot, action, and/or humor well, because I personally am bad at writing those things. On the other hand, I also like character studies, poetic language (which is my polite term for purple prose; it is hard to be too purple for my taste), angst, and introspection, which is why I write them. I like dark themes and happy endings (though probably not in the same story). I like fun stories, the sort that make you smile to read them, but am not so fond of fluff. I like nuances (hmm, that is probably the worst request ever. I like it when authors complicate things?). I really love stories that dig deep, exploring a world or a character's interior. Most of the characters I love are pretty fucked up on the inside, but are also capable of great strength. I like that balance, not a woobie but not a standard hero either. Most of my favorite characters can be encapsulated by the Hemingway quote, "The world breaks everyone and afterward many are stronger at the broken places". That's what really gets me: the refusal to give up, even when it's pointless.

I tend to like a lot of dysfunction in my fictional relationships. They can be happy, but I'm not terribly fond of lots of sap or schmoop, or really any sort of overt romance. I much prefer the unspoken to the outright-stated. Pretty much all of my requests revolve around a relationship (whether you chose to write that as gen or romantic), and I really love reading about how people work (or don't) together. How do they help one another? How do they hurt? How do they understand or misunderstand? What is easy between them, and what is complicated; what is spoken and what is not? Etc. In general, I like my couples to succeed together, but I like it to be hard to get there.

Do not feel obligated to include Christmas (or whatever fantasy-equivalent winter holiday is appropriate to the fandom), but if you want to, feel free. I absolutely adore AUs, whether completely different universes (everyone's in high school! everyone has daemons! everyone is a pirate! And also a vampire!), or the "what if this character had made a different choice?" sort. I think AUs are a fantastic way of exploring what is essential to a character's personality, and what is merely surface, and that's what I find most interesting about them. It's so interesting to explore how a different setting/upbringing/choice might or might not change a person.

Porn is always welcome, of any variety (m/m, f/m, f/f, poly, kinky, vanilla, monogamous or not), and I have a comment elaborating on some of the things I like here. I don't have any squicks or triggers, so write whatever appeals to you. However, don't feel obligated if you don't like to write it. I like G-rated shippy or gen stories too!

Several of the canons I've requested deal with fraught real-life issues (slavery, racism, sexism, religious oppression, to name just a few), and if you want to write a story that tackles these head-on, I would be very into that. If you'd like to avoid them and write happy shipfic, I would like that too! I would, however, prefer not to get issuefic, which I define as a story more interested in teaching a lesson than in the characters themselves.

There's very little in fic that I outright refuse to read; a good story will convince me to like almost anything.

I've written several meta posts about the sort of things that I love in stories. You can use these for inspiration, if you like:

If you're interested, my own stories are (mostly) on AO3, but the complete list of them is collected here. One of my favorite things is to see the way different people have different takes on the same story.

I love you already. Thank you so much for offering one of my fandoms! You clearly have excellent taste. I am a firm believer of "optional details are optional", so feel free to use these comments as inspiration, or to write something entirely else. I'm pretty much guaranteed to like whatever you do, mainly because I've usually forgotten what I requested by the time Yuletide opens, and so it's all a happy surprise.

In general, I really admire any story that can do plot, action, and/or humor well, because I personally am bad at writing those things. My dislikes include OOC, even for the sake of humor. I don't like songfic? Although it would be appropriate for Pitch Perfect, now that I think about it. Man, dislikes are hard. In short, I will be pleased with any story you write. Thank you in advance!

Hello, my Yuletide Santa!

Feel free to ignore this, if you prefer. Or feel free to pick a few details and ignore the rest. You are writing me a story, after all! I am quite fond of you already, and require no more.

But, if you would like more information, I have been inclined to meta about my tastes, over the years.
Here is a post about my top ten story kinks.
Here is a comment about my favorite 'cool bits' in stories.
And, for the excessive win, here is a post about my personal ideal of ships/OTPs.
If you'd like, my own writing is collected here.

A few general comments: I really admire any story that can do plot and/or humor well, because I personally am bad at those things. On the other hand, I also like character detail, poetic language, angst, or introspection, which is why I write them. I like dark themes and happy endings (though probably not in the same story). Dear Santa,

Yay! I love you already. You can feel free to ignore this letter, or you may pick and choose details that match your own preferences. It doesn't matter! You are writing me a story, and thus I love you either way.

I have written things about my story kinks before: this post has my top ten and here's a comment about 'cool bits in stories' that I really like. And, because I am crazy and like meta, I've written an essay about my personal ship/OTP paradigm. Those three things will probably cover most of my personal tastes and interests. Also, you may want to check out my own fic! You can find it all here, but there's a lot, so of course don't feel obligated to read it. I do enjoy happy endings and fluff, and am endlessly impressed by anyone who can write humor well, but dark themes, sad endings, violence, adult language and other things that give movies R ratings are also merrily accepted. Sex scenes are welcome, but if there's no point to it other than 'hey, sex!' I think a fade-to-black or a few evocative lines are much more powerful (and hot).

I have kind of already forgotten most of what I requested, so don't worry about matching anything I said exactly. No matter what you write, I am likely to be pleasantly surprised when the archive opens.

Dear everyone else: I will post more often! Really! But I am so unbelievably busy: I worked over 12 hours some days this week. But I miss you all.

My Yuletide assignment: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! !!! And more: !!! Best thing ever, man.

To my Yuletide Santa,

Thank you so much! I promise already that I am grateful for any story you might write, and so you can take all of this as inspiration, or suggestions, or ignore it entirely.

I wrote a post about my top ten story kinks a few years ago, or here is a more recent comment about my favorite "cool bits" in stories. Any details taken from those would make me incredibly happy.

You could also check out the fic I've written, though I hardly expect you to really do that much research on my tastes. But a quick glance through might indicate that, well, violence, adult language, and dark themes are highly unlikely to bother me, and sex is always a plus.

My favorite things, though, are the characters. Write me a story that explores the characters, that shows them- interacting or alone, happy or sad- just as people, and I will love you forever.
